I have Awakening and Fates with all of the DLC and split titles. I've only played one FE game on GBA a long time ago and I didn't like the perma-death aspect of it. Since I heard you can turn that off in these ones and a lot of people seem to like them (maybe the dating sim aspects popularized it?) I figured I'd give it a shot since I love SRPGs.

Well, he started the season on the Giants and they got rid of him on the 8th to the Rangers and he's on the Mets now. It was an awful signing by the Giants in the first place.

Currently I'm only playing games whenever my friends want to play (Rainbow Six: Seige, Overwatch, DC Universe Online, Monster Hunter, League of Legends, No Man's Sky) since lately I feel like I'm spending too much free time goofing off on video games when I'm supposed to be a responsible adult.

I've been spending some of my free time learning Python and MySQL just because I like learning and it might be useful one day.

You sound just like me (both the programming and the not wanting to spend too much time gaming).

I try to learn programming languages too because it seems like the only thing I have any possibility of a decent future in at this point, but I dunno, there's too many of them and all the tech/practices in software dev are advancing way too rapidly. Like I first learned C++ eight years ago in college but even at the time I think they were teaching us in a pretty outdated way

Have you done anything interesting with Python or are you just pretty much going through basics?

Just basics so far. I have a DVD that my stepdad got from his work (he makes computer chips or something) that's pretty decent at explaining things and then I'm applying that knowledge on the Codeacacademy site to go through their whole program. I'm 70% finished so far but I still don't think I'm ready to make my own stuff without some help.

I tried making a simple text adventure but I messed up the syntax somewhere and I gave up.

Mikolas has been very average after a hot start. Not bad by any means but not any kind of shutdown ace. The Rockies will win today because a 2-2 series is the most boring and logical result.

I can't wait to watch the hall of fame game tonight for 5 minutes and then remember how boring preseason football is for teams I don't (and do) care about

There's a weird post on fangraphs today called Let Us Like Baseball. I don't know that I recommend the piece but it starts off with the author mentioning that she recently asked her friends what their favorite play in baseball is. That's a ridiculously hard question but let's all answer it!

First thing that came to mind for me was an opposite field line drive that splits the gap, preferably for a triple, because that is the most aesthetically beautiful ball in play

Nothing really comes to mind for me tbh. Is it dumb and cliche to say something like a walkoff homer? I mean, you can't get more exciting than that, right? Maybe a walkoff where there's actually a throw to the plate is more "exciting" in terms of suspense but a homer is the highly-satisfying type of exciting.

It also rules when either a) the walkoff homer is to like dead center and you see the outfielder just sadly give up near the end or b) it's a no doubter and the hitter gets to pimp the shit out of it immediately.

My favorite plays in baseball is stealing home or the suicide squeeze play.

I'm in this conference call meeting thing at work, which is sweet because I just sit here at my desk listening and dick around for an hour. What's the new helmet rule in the NFL that everyone is flipping out about?

I don't really understand the rule but i think most people are overreacting over 1 call in 1 preseason game. They said they enforce new rules pretty strictly in the preseason so teams get a better understanding of it. Hopefully it won't really change much when regular season starts

Not sure NFL rules and officiating deserve the benefit of the doubt.

Basically it is a 15 yard penalty with a possibility of being ejected from the game. A player cannot start a tackle with their helmet. The problem some people are having is that it pretty much makes it so people are tackling from a standup position. As it was called yesterday on a player (I don't remember who) who hit a player shoulder first, but since the head was is connected to the shoulder a flag was thrown.

They redefined the catch rule for this year but from what I remember it's still really vague so I don't expect that to get any better.

Rather than try to make sense of all that, I'm still on board the anti-replay train (that goes for all sports except like tennis where they use some computerized system instead of having somebody subjectively watch video for 20 minutes)

Greg Holland has been granted his release. He may have had an 8 ERA this year, but on the bright side, he did cost the Cards a draft pick as well.
