==================================== { 1,009th Place } [10's][ 189th Place] Song: "All About That Bass" Band: Meghan Trainor Album: Title ---{ 2014 }--- Genre: Bubblegum Pop Score:[7.3][4.2][2.2][4.2][2.3][5.2][10.1] = [35.5] = [5.071] Video:
Write-Up: Bubblegume Pop anyone? >_> (Gawd I hate this song). Another pick from the wife and a song that I was forced to give more points to than I wanted. It really does have a good beat no matter how annoying I find the artist. She isn't really my type and I hate that I'm partially attracted to her. How do you be a hater when you are unable to stomp on a nomination? lol Anyway, despite my disliking for the song, it has smashed the charts becoming one of Meghan's most popular and well known songs. She has a pretty big following as well which is great for any performer I'm sure and her Title Album kicked off her career in ways that I'm sure she wasn't even expecting. This song was her big debut to the world as well and she ended up receiving several grammy nominations although I'm not sure she actually won anything. ====================================

Write-Up: And with this song, all of your 90's picks are down Snake. I think that leaves you with 4 or 5 nominations left which sort of puzzles my original expectations for your nominations. I honestly thought you'd have a bunch of noms I liked but as it turns out our interests aren't exactly as similar as I thought they might be. This is our first trip into Sludge Metal though and it isn't a terrible example considering. It does kind of feel slightly unpolished but it's hard to tell since the instrumentation is supposed to be edgy and sharp. The main guitar riff is pretty kick a** but it isn't enough to carry this higher unfortunately. ====================================

Write-Up: Here is a song with a completely classic sound but imo not a song that has enough high points. It really is kind of generic in a way that there aren't too many memorable notes even though there is a recognizable tune. I think it serves it's purpose for anyone that likes easy listening music that is tolerable for most anyone. I never really listened to a whole lot of Jackson Browne growing up but I definitely remember this song from the radio that my mother would always listen to when I was a kid. Actually come to think of it, the only other song I am really familiar with is "Running on Empty" which I think is a far greater tune (and it actually appears on this list btw). ====================================

Write-Up: Interesting. It looks like you'll be entering the Top 1,000 with a single nomination left in every decade Dragon. That's kinda cool. I wonder which one will prevail the longest? ;P Anyway, geesh. The last time I heard a Michelle Branch song was when she was a one hit wonder. If it were never for the movie series American Pie I would probably would never had heard of her before... oh no wait, I take that back. A Thousand Miles was one of those friggin' songs that played incessantly when I was working in the TV department at Best Buy. So annoying when you've actually heard that song a literal thousand times! Back to this song though, it is a bit catchy although too kiddie and cute for my usual taste. ====================================

Write-Up: Uh oh. A 1-2 punch for Indie music tonight. This song starts out sort of like a Prodigy song or something that I've heard on the Matrix Soundtrack but I don't recall atm which song it was. I do like the industrial overtones here and it sort of puzzles me how it's still better classified as "Indie Rock" instead of Industrial Rock but whatever. I'm certainly no expert on genres although I took my best crack at judging in that department here. (I generally went with the sum of the info I dug up for this determination). Never heard of this band before this ranking but it's a band that has now been added to my "check out" list. I almost thought there was another song from this band in the ranking but I couldn't see it when I checked the list. ====================================

Write-Up: Right off the bat this pulls me in because it sounds like or reminds me of rather, a wonderful RPG by the name of Lost Odyssey that I have completed 4 times and might be ready for a 5th playthrough tbh. It might even re-appear later as a ranking regret but for now I gotta battle my bias and stick with how it made me feel during the scoring process. It's clear though that unfamiliarity will be this tune's downfall this time around. I really gotta tweak that part of the criteria if I do this again in the future. Anyway, yeah damn. I wanna play Lost Odyssey now.lol ====================================

Write-Up: Our 2nd stop for Heart but not our last. My wife was pissed at me again for dropping another song she liked specifically of Heart's. It was one of the bands she listened to when she played with her barbies as a kid or something and she thinks a classic like this doesn't deserve such treatment.lol I do understand her sentiment but this song just doesn't thrill me more than the speedy guitar intro. I didn't mind playing the song on Guitar Hero though. I think this is the first song to get atleast 4 6's not that that is very interesting but just something I noticed. I kinda didn't realize that the entire Top 1,000 of this ranking would be better than 5's at first but it sort of gives me confidence in myself that I found enough of them to legitimize my quest here. Going into this I wondered if I'd spend enough time building a list to be worth it and as we approach that 1,000 I can say I am extremely satisfied already. Sadly for this song too many of those spots above are songs I like better. ====================================

Write-Up: Not the first boy band to appear in the ranking so far but probably a bit more appreciated than those One Direction fellas. I don't l know about anyone else but NSync was a big hit around where I grew up in the late 90's. I like a few of their songs and of course Justin Timberlake would emerge from the group eventually to break strides in the R & B and Dance Pop genre. This isn't the most catchy song of the band's but I let it in because I found it on quite a few personal lists as I checked into it. I figured I'd try to get some stuff in that other people liked. (Truthfully I needed to fill the list too) Unfortunately I don't like it enough to have it in the meat and potatoes of the ranking. ====================================

Might it perhaps remind you of a different game, Tales From the Borderlands, where it, perhaps, plays during the credits? ---

Write-Up: First of all, does anyone else think that there are similarities to this and BOC's Astronomy? I kinda hear it in the background about half way through this song (around 3:50 to be exact). Anyway, wow. I wasn't too friendly to the 70's so far in this ranking. Almost 100 of the songs from the decade fell to nothingness. Either I just had a hard time finding stuff I liked from the decade or there just wasn't as much as I thought I liked. I couldn't really get into the beat of this song and the vocals, well let's be honest, are atrocious at first and don't get much better throughout the song. It did ok on the charts but nothing too impressive imo. That aside YAY! We are down 300 songs! Although my bad Bane. That probably feels more like a rubbing in the face since with this nomination down you literally have 1 nomination left. At least you were not eliminated before the Top 1,000 am I rite? ====================================

105/1000 to come! 195 culled before 1000, but still! 10% of the top 1000!
19 '70s songs, 21 '80s, 20 '90s, 26 '00s, and 19 '10s still to come!
Not too many comments really on "Going the Distance" nor "Light and Day." Both were songs nominated in attempts to pick songs that wouldn't be on your list already, first and foremost. "Going the Distance" is an underrated track from the Rocky soundtrack that I've wanted to see ranked for some time, but always forgot to nominate, and I'm really happy with your write-up of it. Curious now how "Gonna Fly Now" would fare. "Light and Day" was just... a weird nomination. I'm not sure why I chose it over plenty of other things, but I know I was scouring Scrubs for songs. I'm kind of happy it's not still in the running. ---

I'm going to be honest, while Hard Habit to Break and Lorelai are the favorite on my list, I didn't expect them to make it to the top 1,000, and kinda surprised Creepy Doll made it this far as well. All pleasant surprises, mind, but still.
...And I'm... just going to ignore that particular Trainor song being that high for the sake of my own blood pressure. ---
My thesaurus arrived yesterday, but when I opened it it was blank inside. I have no words to describe how angry I am.
Yay we made it! We're finally...down to triple digits. lol
Gonna echo Mana's point that I wasn't sure how many songs we'd find to squeeze into the upper echelons of your list. You already had songs picked out, earmarked the ones you wanted, and then forced us to find alternates. In the case of the 80s, I bounced about 15 alternates off you and you still ended up taking somebody else's random song because everything I suggested was a song you already had. Between that and the confirmation bias that's going to be inherent in a list like this, I'd say we did pretty well. ---

Kinda surprised you hadn't heard of Poets Of The Fall since they're the guys who did VG Music Contest retiree The Poet & The Muse (from the game Alan Wake, which is where I first heard about them. Haunted by Poe also appears in that game).
My Silver Lining also appears as the end credits theme for the final episode of Tales From The Borderlands. ---

Write-Up: So surprisingly it looks like we'll kick off the Top 1,000 here with a tune that I was not familiar with before this ranking which is interesting in a way. It's got a good beat and I do sorta like the vocals though. I don't think the song is completely entertaining but the message is one that can be interpreted a few ways and it did pretty darn well on the charts. It's sort of reundant in an almost kind of annoying way but it doesn't quite cross that line. Right off the bat though it does make me think of the sort of beat the White Stripes would come up with which in truth might be why I showed leniency here. Overall though it isn't the kind of song I would go out of my way to recommend to anyone. ====================================

i would take OW over RI any day because OW doesn't have Phillip. iirc that's pretty much the bulk of the reason for that order for me. they're both awful obviously but OW just gets boring as fuck as it goes on whereas RI gets boring and annoying.
then again, OW did have a moment where i legitimately got angry while watching. don't remember if i had that for RI. also during OW i keep having to hear the name "Troyzan"
Write-Up: When I set out to do this ranking there were several songs that I didn't imagine that I'd place on the list and here is one of them. Personally I didn't select this song with any intention of bumping it that high but I kinda dig the beat even though it's a bit slower than I typically like and I really couldn't deny the amazing vocals here. I don't have a lot of connecting memories though and tbh I didn't dig too deep into the song's meaning either. I kinda do take an aoutomatic liking to the song in a way because I like almost anything with decent Piano play in it. It was kind of impressive to read that this song reached #1 in nearly every single country it charted in. The song was nominated for over 12 awards and even helped Adele win 3 Grammy awards. When the music video was released it shattered Taylor Swift's record for the most plays of a song in the first 24 hours of it's release by a clear 7 Million views. ====================================
