So, like, ancient gods, cults trying to revive ancient gods, etc.

I'm reading Lovecraft and am loving a few of the stories.

The best example that I can think of is *maybe spoilers* bloodborne

Literally my favorite atmosphere of any game that I've played (and can actually recall).

I also remember that one of the CoD games had a Nazi zombi dlc that had you playing in a Lovecraft setting.

So, any good recommendations?

I love shooting black people in that game.

But not because they're black, but because they're people

Yeah, this is very not-Lovecraftian stuff.
The solution to most stories in the stories was just to move away, not shoot them with guns.

TC asked for Lovecraft themes which Dead Space and Doom definitely have.

Cosmic horrors from beyond? check
Crazy cults? Check
Main character going insane? Check
Science gone wrong resulting in tenteclled monsters entering our reality? Check
Gothic architecture? Check
Talking to dead people? Check

Just because you can shoot the monsters doesn't change the fact that they're Lovecraftian themes involved. I mean you shoot monsters in Resident Evil but it's still a horror game.

The theme is usually someone dealing with some sort of overwhelming horror that can't be explained by science. Not whatever you said.

The Lurking Horror

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lurking_Horror

It was rather scary and had good puzzles, at least the part that I could beat before I played following the hints. >_> But the rest of the game seemed solvable if I'd spent a few months playing it off and on, and it would've probably been scarier too.

I'm kind of shocked bloodborne wasnt mentioned already. The latter half of the game is very heavily lovecraftian.
