In short, the writer for Guild Wars 2, Jessica Price goes on twitter to explain her writing processes, then a player of the game responded back with "maturity, politeness, and respect" gave criticisms that were often counter-intuitive to Price's method. Price flips her shit, and calls out the person as a lesser being since she has 10 years experience writing for games, and no one else knows nothing; then more players chimed in on the discussion, until Price returns scathing back at them, and worse....DROPPING THE GENDER CARD THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO THE WITH CONVERSATION IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!!......After a few more exchanges, another writer for the game stepped up to defend her with the usual tripe you hear from so-called male-feminist cucks.....

After a few more heated exchanges from more players, followed by reddit blowing all over the place, ArenaNet comes in a day later, gives a bit of PR rhetoric about respect and love for their customers followed by the two writers...GETTING FIRED!!!!!....

The term only exists in the first place because it was coined as an insult. Specifically for overzealous assholes who use social justice as a thin veneer of justification for witch hunts and shitheel behavior. Similar to how the term "white knight" (which theoretically has positive connotations) was used to brand the sort of person who painted themselves as a crusader for truth and justice when in reality they were creepy fucks whose sole motivation was to try and woo damsels in distress to offer them sex for defending their honor in online arguments. It's using sarcasm to call out an asshole for the disguise they choose to hide behind, with the implication that they are nothing like what they see themselves as.

People misuse the term (just like people online misuse pretty much every term, ever), and equally shitty people on the other side use it to brand pretty much anything they don't like, weakening its actual value (similar to how "troll" has basically come to mean "anyone who says something I don't like"), but at its heart, SJW refers to a very specific sort of shitty person who absolutely deserves to be shit on for their attitude and beliefs.

It's NOT the same as someone who simply pursues or advocates actual social justice, because no SJW actually gives a single shit about social justice. They are motivated by their own sense of self-superiority and desire to aggressively attack or vilify others, and use social justice as the shield they hide behind and the weapon they use to attack. They selectively pick and choose the aspects of social justice they can use to prove their own pet agenda or target specific victims for attention, and ignore every other facet of social justice and decent human behavior whenever it's convenient.

They're the metaphorical equivalent of asking someone if they've stopped beating their wife. They use arguments designed to make YOU look like the asshole for disagreeing with them, in spite of the fact that they're generally reprehensible people with repugnant views and a terrible, attitude. They also tend to be the people who pull out terms like "toxic" or "problematic" in spite of themselves being the problem, and creating most of the toxicity in discussions that they themselves disapprove of.

People calling out SJWs for legitimate SJW behavior absolutely have the right to do so, and deserve their voice more than any SJW who has ever lived.

And like it or not, most actual legitimate social justice advocates and people who actually DO further the cause of social justice in the real world (and not just digitally masturbate themselves on Twitter) would (and often do) find the behavior of most SJWs reprehensible and self-sabotaging. Just as many equal rights advocates and women's rights activists in the real world hate the word "feminism" because it's been damaged by the most extreme, insane, and vindictive feminists using the term in an entirely negative light, poisoning the well for everyone else.

SJW was a term specifically created to describe the worst of these people whom specifically act like X has to do with social inequalities, such as this example.

The term was originally coined WAAAY back, on Livejournal, as a derogatory term for the sort of people who would spend all day skimming through other people's journals, looking for anything they considered crimethink, and reporting those journals or otherwise trying to get the users banned (and failing that, just constantly shitting on those people in comments and otherwise trying to insult and harass them into leaving on their own, because again, being a shitty, abusive human being is perfectly acceptable when YOU do it).

But some of those same people actually started using the term to refer to themselves, completely missing all of the sarcasm and irony inherent in the term, instead loving the idea that they were somehow a noble warrior for truth and justice fighting against the forces of oppression and evil (thus feeding their egos even more). So much so that you'd probably see more people using it to refer to themselves unironically there than people using it to shit on them.

Once SJW as a term migrated over to sites like Twitter and Reddit, it kind of swung back to the original meaning of being a terrible, oppressive and exploitative sort of person, but there are still SJWs out there who are still deep down the rabbit hole and delusional enough to try and wear it as a badge of pride, painting themselves as noble warriors fighting for social justice in a terrible world, and seeing every single person who disagrees with them for any reason as being a monster who deserves nothing more than venomous abuse and constant harassment.

Those are actually the sorts of SJWs most like to self-destruct like the developer in the original story - in her mind, she's firmly convinced that she's a martyr bravely standing against the forces of oppression and injustice, and literally everyone else is a bigot or fool. The one person responsible for most of her problems is also the one person she will literally never, ever blame.

She acted unprofessionally on social and she got wired. If anything, it's a reminder that most people with jobs (specifically anything not involving aggressive self-promotion) are better off avoiding social media altogether.

On a more general level, her stupidity seems at least partly fueled by identity politics where groups are encouraged to feel aggrieved by "microaggressions," many of which they're told to feel mad about by shitty opportunists and zealots who either make a living off agitation or use it for personal self-promotion.

Wanted to post a vid of a guy saying "Collateral damage," but couldn't immediately find one (and can't remember the movie where a character callously uses those words to answer a question about somebody else being hurt in an attack). However, his defense, while small, was extremely tone-deaf and unprofessional. He got caught up in a controversy because he deliberately inserted himself into the controversy in a provocatively stupid way.

This is more of an incident with a thin skinned, entitled and victim mentality person grossly overreacting to mild disagreement and criticism that was in direct response to something she posted for public review and comment.

Basically, she's just an asshole that reacted like an asshole and got fired for being an asshole because it made her employer look bad. Incredible that she apparently not only continues to be unable to recognize as much, but think ls she is the victim of some sort of sexism. Quite hypocritically, I bet she's the type of person that cheers when reading a story about someone else acting like an asshole gets fired, even when it had nothing to do with their job.

But she was speaking for that company, she was on an open platform, inviting to all the GW2 gamers, speaking about her methods for game writing, writing for GW2, and again, flips her shit when she didn't like feedback, and hiding behind her identity politics too.

It's not like there is this 9-to-5 window where professional speech and personal speech transistion here. She was a member of ArenaNet, and essentially speaking for ArenaNet.

If what you do is in the public eye and reflects badly on your company because you are literally discussing aspects of your job and shitting on the customers of that company, then yes, what you did on your off time is absolutely grounds for firing.

This is the double-sided sword that no one cared about years ago, but which is starting to bite people on the ass now. No one gives a shit about the idea of privacy, and loves throwing whatever thoughts are in their head on Twitter for the world to see in a desperate bid for people to pay attention, but then they get attention they don't like, and suddenly there are consequences for public behavior, and everyone throws a tantrum that there's no privacy or dividing line between public and private life anymore.

This is the world Myspace and Facebook and Twitter has made for us. As long as social media is a thing and you choose to use it, you are essentially your own PR team 100% of the time, and your behavior absolutely reflects on your employer. Especially when your social media proudly proclaims what you do for a living and you're actively discussing aspects of your job there.
