It's one of those games that truly make you feel like a badass when you get into the groove master everything.
After a certain point, the difficulty isn't even about staying alive, but rather, how long you can maintain those flashy combos when you're fighting a bunch of dudes.

I'm tempted to hook up my PS3 and fire Arkham City up.

The best is when you finish a fight with quick-grapple->punch and the resulting clothesline is in slow motion.

Dude, I aced all the free-flow combat challenges with all the characters. How can something be so fun, frustrating and satisfying all at once?

I really like Arkham Knight more than most people but in terms of the free-flow combat (the main reason I love these games), I prefer Arkham City over Knight. The characters feel lighter in City to me and I like that more.

Nah. That's the best part; it have great accessibility in its combat system!
If you're not some try-hard like me and you're here to enjoy the ride, looking for a good time with straight forward action, you can play that way! Just strikes and parries and other stuff when you need to.

But if you want to go in and start doing flashy shit and learning how to use everything to their full strengths, trying to go for high scores and shit, you can do that too! It's very flexible.

City's combat and stealth is more balanced than Knight, although Knight's gameplay in those areas is probably better on a technical level.
I also liked the Batmobile in most levels, and I don't think another Batman game could ever replicate or surpass the geeky joy of divebombing off a skyscraper while the camera pans to reveal the Batmobile roaring down the street to catch you.

I wasn't really disappointed with Knight but my expectations were super duper high (got the collector's edition statue on my shelf as testament), and I never 100% it despite doing so with Asylum and City multiple times each.

Well yeah, the two or three-mook counter usually results in one of them being used as a weapon against the others.

Nah. Once you start fighting the shield and electric stick guys you need to do more.

It's still easy though yes. The challenge is getting the high score and maintaining your combo.

I still alternated once I fully upgraded it because I never got tired of the car chases, but I do think the best part of the Batmobile was getting in/out of it at high speed.

I think I liked Knight's story mode more than City's too, at least for certain set pieces. The part where you stealth attack a guy with a bomb strapped to his chest and disarm it in front of his shocked team is good shit, and such a perfect counter-argument to that entire strategy.

Mastering the counter-attack in each of these scenarios is actually very close in cool factor so I think it should.

And there's that DLC Wayne Manor combat map where there are like 10 knife guys and awwww shit combo multipliers for days.

Sometimes I don't even bother doing the blade counters because they require such percise timing, especially when you're in the middle of some other animation and then a dude with a knife comes at you. Instead, I just evade them, then do the stun + beatdown.

It took a while but I eventually learned that the tutorial for knife counters is a little dishonest. You don't have to tap the button after every strike, just hold the button until the final strike and then you tap once. Makes the ninjas a lot easier.

Why?

Asylum was amazing because it was basically the first proper superhero game since forever.
Story was great.
City felt like an expansion, not another proper game. It was also great, but I disliked the story twist in the end. Felt recycled.
Origins wasn't even advertised as a new game and I really liked the story/characters.
Knight's gameplay was garbage. I don't want batmobile boss fights.

"Pay your respects" is one of the best easter eggs out there.

Asylum > City > Knight > Origins
Asylum is the best package, City is the most fun to play and replay, Knight could have had the best gameplay and story but squandered it with a lot of poor decisions, and Origins is good but people overrate the boss fights and story just because the rest of the series is kind of eh on those two fronts. Heart of Ice was the only other exceptional thing about it.

The final "level" is fantastic and exemplary of what the Arkham dudes always handled best when it came to story (the Batman/Joker relationship).

The final scene is a wet fart though yeah, and the secret ending even more of a fart.

Asylum was fine. Oddly enough, I didn't like it when I first played it. It had to grow on me.
City felt like an expansion? That's just crazy. City is one of those games that's a prime example on how to do a sequel right. It was bigger, more polished, and added to the first game as well as it build off of a lot of things that made Asylum work. I really enjoyed the story but the twist at the end was a little meh to me.
Origins was just meh to me. Wasn't bad, wasn't good enough to make me want to finish it. It had some neat ideas though. Never touched the multiplayer, which I assume was trash anyway.
I know people don't like AK but that's just a gross over exaggeration. Knight was really solid game overall and not nearly as bad as people try to make it out to be. My biggest issue with it really is that the shift between it and AC isn't nearly as notable as the shift between AA and AC. Basically AC was such a great game in the series that I couldn't see AK doing too much to improve upon it. They tried though and I had a damn blast with it.

Like the ending of the chemical plant, Knight just has several moments I would consider best in the series, but it's all very disjointed and the story has equally dumb/disappointing moments too. I think City+Harley Quinn's Revenge set up a really great thread with Bruce being pushed to his limit, but it doesn't really pay off in Knight I don't think.

Instant takedown bro. Especially in Shock and Awe (Extreme).
