Lol that's true, Pomeranz has had a fine career. Maybe my gut feeling about Gray is wrong. I've got nothing against him except I'm disappointed in him this season after he was elite last year.

How long does somebody have to be in the majors before they can't option them? If that would apply to Gray next year, maybe they're just trying to make a last-ditch tuneup. Or it's a contract thing, he's arbitration eligible next year but I don't entirely know what that means. My guess is they're trying to straighten him out before they have to make a decision. You don't want to lose a talent like that but you don't want to overpay if he doesn't get better.

I don't know what their plan is to replace him since they called up a position player. I guess they'll probably bring somebody else up in a couple days.

It has to do with how many "option" years a guy has, but I don't know how it relates to arbitration. It could be that once youre arb eligible you are out of options. But when you're out of options, you have to be placed on waivers if you're being demoted. Gray is definitely too good to be placed on waivers because a lot of teams would snatch him up for nothing. But I think it's something like you have 3 years on the active roster of options. And it might be one of those things where it's 3 years to the date, so if he got called up in like September 22 2015 he can still be optioned until September 21. But I'm not 100% on that.

No I didn't know the exact option rules so that's fine. He's been around for about three calendar years so that might be why they're doing it.

I just looked it up. It's 3 years but the "to the date" thing is irrelevant. You have 3 option years as soon as you're put on the 40 man, but you only use an option if you spent 20 days in the minors that season. So it's fully possible that Gray is down for two weeks and doesn't use up an option. But it also probably doesn't matter too much because I'm sure he was called up shortly after being put on the 40. He didn't spend long in the minors.

Paul George is going to stay with the Thunder. I think it's a dumb move on his part, though it's hilarious because the Lakers potentially triply eat shit with this:

- No George (obviously)
- Spurs get more trade leverage because, like Kawhi, George also said before his trade last year that he'd just go to the Lakers when he becomes a free agent.
- LeBron probably doesn't go to LA if they can't land another star

I don't really know what Laker fans are like beyond NBAB but it's pretty ridiculous there. It was annoying when the Lakers were really good but now it's just sad and hilarious. They all act like Lonzo is the next big thing and that they're guaranteed a big three of Kawhi, PG and LeBron. Some of them are probably trolling but I don't really get it, they're only making fun of themselves.

I think the Lonzo stuff is some combination of delusion and trolling, but the way they talk about LA like it's better than your city is how they genuinely feel and that smugness is the worst.

Obvious take: ending a soccer game with penalties is as dumb as ending a playoff NHL game with a shootout would be.

I gotta stop reading LeBron news until he actually just makes the decision. It's all a bunch of bullshit speculation, oh this thing happened so now he's DEFINITELY going to LA. But wait, actually this suggests he's staying in Cleveland. How is he definitely going to LA but also definitely Cleveland and maybe Philly at the same time?

Hopefully he doesn't go there and LA fans will stop talking like they're the top destination from now on. Remember when the Knicks were always part of FA speculation? They suck too. The only reason these are perceived as top destinations is because of the cities, not the teams. But the Knicks haven't been relevant in speculation for a while, hopefully this Laker myth can die too.

Well Kawhi does want to go there but I don't think the Spurs will trade him there (Boston wasn't a preferred Kyrie destination either) and he could pull a PG afterwards for all we know

For perhaps the first time in my life today I sent a text to the wrong person. The worst part? It was a note I meant to send to myself about a quest in Jade Empire, I was just sending it as a reference for myself to solve a stupid puzzle. So this is a text I sent to someone today:

Yeah, Cousins would be a good fit. But there's concerns about his Achilles, which is pretty serious when it comes to basketball. So he's deal will probably be interesting.
