The Giants will do the same

Of course, instead of scoring the 6 runs they needed, they simply gave up 6 more to the Cardinals. Yeesh.

They had to actually trail by 9 to make a 9 run comeback so they had to let the Cards score 11. Unfortunately they forgot to make the comeback

Tony Parker signed with the Hornets, wut? It was expected he wouldn't play in SA next year, but that's a dumb team to choose. He had a much better team in the Nuggets interested in him, not that I'm mad he didn't come here, because he sucks.

Also the Thunder are expected to part ways with Melo. Seems like the other banana boaters' teams are the favorites to get him, but I don't really know why anyone would want him at this point

as you all know I'm not a basketball guy, but this is interesting
https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/1015384526418309120

this kind of seems like a lose lose for Chicago. If they don't match, they lose the centerpiece of what they got for the Jimmy Butler trade after Lavine only played like half the season coming off a torn ACL

If they match, they way overpay for a player who's coming off an ACL who likes like he'll have a good future, but it's certainly no guarantee

I've been seeing rumors that Jimmy Butler could come back anyway

I don't think the Bulls should pay that much for LaVine but I had no idea that when they traded for him he'd be able to walk after only one season. That seems pretty dumb, isn't Butler under contract with Minny for another year? They couldn't possibly have traded for an inferior player with less team control... right?

Like I said, I don't know anything about basketball, but I also had no idea about Lavine's contract situation. I assumed when they made the trade, they'd make sure he's there for a while, on their own terms, like re-signing him before it got to this point. And the trade did and still seemed lopsided in favor of the Tpups.

And yes Butler is under contract for another season. I think the general consensus here is that it looks like he will not re-sign here based off the Twolves history and this story from some reporter in chicago who is apparently a shock-jock with a history of bad reporting, but either way it's too early to tell, who said Butler thinks Towns is immature and wants to go sign out east somewhere with Kyrie. Seems like the NBA can be such a reality show some times, if all these reports are to be believed

There was a lot of stuff about Kawhi coming out recently. Apparently his uncle is his agent (or he's part of his agency or something) and he's believed to be the driving force behind wanting him to leave SA, but they make him sound like this LaVar Ball-esque overbearing figure who is sabotaging Kawhi with all the weird shit he does

Not me, for one. I understand the pain of the hiring process so I don't blame you for being upset.

That LaVine signing is a lot of money, but the Kings have to overpay if they ever want good talent to go there. It doesn't matter either way, as the Warriors will be winning championships the entire time LaVine would be on the Kings.

I was thinking about all my sad or negative thoughts coursing through my brain the other day. I don't usually post about them but in the past I have typed up a long post and then just deleted it after reading it to myself. Maybe I would post them sometimes if I didn't know someone IRL who would read it.

Anyway I was thinking about these thoughts because I blacked out from drinking for the first time in my life this week for my birthday at the bar, and it was both an illuminating and humiliating experience after the fact. First of all it's just crazy to misplace an hour of your life but that's what happened (as I'm sure most of you know from experience). Second, I sent a flurry of weirdo texts that I still can't believe are real when I look at them but luckily they were only sent to people who it's mostly OK to be embarrassing in front of. They were melancholy but also overly sweet and loving which is maybe worse.

Anyway. My thinking was how can people do this to themselves like five times a week? I know those are just what we call alcoholics, but do you think they could make the value proposition that they've engaged in even unconsciously? Some part of their brain must be communicating that this is the best option for them, and that value judgment shows that it's better to feel sick every day than to let yourself feel sad at night. Either way you're going to feel sad during the day I would think, as most of us do except for in the fleeting moments of distraction that late capitalism grants us with twitter and whatnot, but at least once you're off work you can get some tangible pleasure out of life. Anyway I don't think it'd be worth it for me, a) because I don't like feeling sick all the time and b) because I know that I would just make myself sadder with my behavior if I got drunk every night.

I've been blackout drunk a few times, but it's not something I ever really set out to do each time. If you've only done it once in your life that's not that bad. I haven't done it in like five years though so I have gotten a lot better. I don't really even like to get drunk much in general anymore. Even if I'm just somewhat drunk I'll end up saying silly/stupid stuff or texting people who I shouldn't be texting (*COUGH*girls*COUGH*), then I feel bad the next day. Not like super creepy or forward stuff, to be clear, but just kind of like sober me can take the hint she doesn't like me and leave things be.

And then sometimes I'll hang out with friends who are my age or older and it always seems like they just want to go really hard with drinking. I don't really understand it, that was fun in college, but I'm pretty over it.

My understanding is that with more severe alcoholics, they get a physical dependency and feel more sick if they don't drink, up to the point that the body is so used to alcohol it can go into some kind of withdrawal shock if you just go cold turkey. I sort of learned that when a friend's parent basically died from alcoholism at later middle age. People have different reasons for starting to do it, whether it's self medication or they just like it so much, and then it can lead to physical dependency depending on habits/genes/whatever else.

I did the drunk dial thing a while ago, but I it was when I had first started dranxing and it stopped as I got older/got more used to it. Every person is a different kind of "drunk" tho

I've been there, and it's pretty scary. It's why I don't drink nearly as often as I did. I wasn't in the alcoholic stage, mind you, but blacking out and vomiting in a bar is a terrible experience that really makes you wonder about your own choices.

I think people do it multiple times a week to drown out different things. Either different negative voices or situations. Or they just like being rowdy. People are weird and complicated.

I'm glad to hear you are alright though.

If I get drunk at all I'm definitely texting someone. The best case scenario is that I text the people who I was just with after I get home. This happened after my cousin's wedding this year when my sister-in-law and I had a very drunk heart-to-heart and I sent her a wild text afterward that she has thankfully never brought up. There are maybe two people in my phone who I was afraid to see when I looked at my texts this time and neither one was on there which was a relief, though I did text the hell out of one person who was there but left halfway through, one person who canceled at the last minute (also into a thread with both of those people), and one person who was there the whole night who I then called from the uber.

I've accepted in the last year that a very emotional drunk but I never take pains to stop myself from texting. It could be really bad one of these times. These were probably the worst drunk texts I've ever sent because all but the one who stayed all night stopped responding and I kept going which isn't a good sign, but no one seems to care already which is good. The other thing I do when I'm drunk is hug people. I hug everyone all the time and it's something I don't do sober.

I think this goes with what @MNTwins1991 said about how everyone is a different kind of drunk. It's like I give myself the excuse to cut loose from my stoic facade. Not that it's really a facade I guess, but I don't express myself that much in my day-to-day life I guess and I definitely don't do so affectionately. I hugged my older brother! I don't know when I'd last done that.

I also think part of the type of drunk I am relates to how infrequently I get drunk-drunk. I don't really know how many is too many for me. I think another issue might be that people incorrectly assume that I've got a handle on myself as a drunk so they don't feel the need to tell me to slow down or whatever (though I intentionally went hard this time of course).

I did throw up but that's the only physical issue that occurred I think. I didn't even have that horrible of a hangover, just my stomach feeling not great and the usual stumbles in the morning. The day after that wedding I wanted to die from how bad my head hurt but this time my head was fine.

In general I think people might be a little annoyed but they understand that you're drunk and they don't hold it against you for being obnoxious. We've all been there.

When I drink, I'm kind of a high-functioning drunkard, but that's only because I don't want to make an ass of myself, so I concentrate part of what little brainpower I have left to analyze the situation and make sure I'm not being annoying or saying something stupid. I guess my anxiety keeps me just sober enough, for the most part. Luckily I don't text in general so there's no lasting evidence of my buffoonery.

I've only blacked out twice, and the last time was on my birthday a few years ago. I was apparently hugging everyone goodbye and thanking them for coming even though nobody was leaving. They still joke around with me about that but It's not super embarrassing or anything. And I woke up in the morning with my gift from friends which was a PS4 that I didn't remember getting so that was nice. The time I blacked out before that was a Halloween party with a bunch of people I didn't know and I woke up with some of my stuff stolen which was not nice.

Those are both interesting things to wake up to. They're like two different sides of everyone's favorite film franchise, The Hangover. Two mysteries to solve but one is cool and one sucks.

As for the power of your anxiety overwhelming your ability to truly debase yourself, I don't really know if that's good or bad but it's interesting. When I think back on the things I said when I was drunk I sometimes can't believe it, like who was that person who was capable of saying that because he wasn't me. But that's also part of the fun of getting drunk, and it's not like I say anything that disqualifies me from being liked. I don't become transphobic or anything when I drink, though that would be another interesting twist

This reminded me of two things. First, in regards to being high-functioning, I like playing video games when I'm drunk sometimes because if I do well I feel like it's a big triumph of coordination.

And secondly, I totally feel sometimes like I over focus on staying reasonable when I'm out with people. The "concentrate what little brainpower" part is funny to me because I feel like that creates a huge debt of drunken consequences. Several times I'll get home from drinking and like the first thing I want to do is just make love to the floor for a couple minutes. Maybe that's more of an environmental thing, like moving from a loud bar with lots of people around to a quiet home, it's such a big shock. Cause I would say when it comes to stuff like vomiting I can't really hold that in or it doesn't hit me so suddenly when I get home.

Also I played some more multiplayer Stardew last night, this time joining a server with two guys who had been playing it for 12 hours straight when I came on the scene. They were in Fall 1 and I showed up with no skills, no progression, no tool upgrades.

Folks, it kind of sucked ass. I had to keep spending their copper and their money to get myself new items just to keep up. Furthermore, as I said last time, these fellows were absolutely not getting what j consider to be a true Stardew experience. They were making a psychotic amount of money because they had so much manpower to buy and tend to crops and they did literally nothing else it seemed aside from fish and spelunk when they were finished. They hadn't given a single item to the community center or made a single friend and when I would say "hey it's Penny's birthday" they wouldn't even care. It's not that it's not fun to play Stardew as a crops only game, but it is WRONG!!!

Fishing is fine. The design of the fishing bar is kind of stupid though, with that little weed at the bottom. At first I thought that was representing the fish height in the water and you were supposed to somehow take the little fish icon to the top. I believe I've played another game that did have a fishing/treasure pulling mechanic like what I described, so that adds to why I thought Stardew was something similar

Dark cloud 2 is so good (you don't need to play the first one, they're basically unrelated)
It's one of those games where there's so much content but you can do as much as or as little as you want and the game doesn't punish you for it.

Plus it has one of the cooler premises in an RPG. Basically this evil guy from ancient times figured out time travel and went ahead thousands of years and wiped out anyone who would become a threat to him. You go around restoring/ building villages to certain criteria that will be birthplaces of these people that help you eventually beat him
