IDK how it works out with American ramen, but with Korean SHIN ramen adding an egg and mixing it right in adds a ton of flavor

but sometimes i'll do like a mini kind of poach where i add the egg at the very end and then turn the heat off and I'll get a nice yolky ball of egg

Add some sliced green onion and grilled pork mmmmm

What about you?

Have you ever added an egg to your ramen noodles?
How did you prepare it?
What else have you put in ramen?

No

The whole point of ramen is being cheap and easy. If you're going to make it more complicated and more expensive, why are you eating ramen to begin with? Why not just make a real meal?

It would be like whipping up a homemade icing and adding fresh berries to a Pop-Tart. Sure, you could do it, but it kind of defeats the whole point of eating Pop-Tarts in the first place.

There are quite a few good ramen/pho restaurants in Philly. It's nice.

Mostly because doing so makes it more tastier, more nutritious, and most importantly, doesn't take any extra time. Already cooking it anyway. Takes no time to add an egg and have it cook alongside it.

This is false. Completely false.

I've added a fried egg (yolk still runny) on top or hard boiled egg cut in half. I don't like putting uncooked egg in while it's cooking.

I also like to add real chicken or pork.

The other day I added steak slices, mozzarella and corn.

It's no different than getting a ramyeon bowl from an authentic ramyeon shop or even one of those cup noodles with the dried vegetables and meat chunks in it (most ramyeon bowls have em)

I think what they are trying to say is that ramen is usually a cheap and fast thing here. And that if youre going to add all the extra stuff in, then why not buy the noodles instead of the cheap and quick ramen. Personally, it doesnt matter as much to me, but I believe thats what they are trying to say...

Yea, I could probably do it a better way, but near the end of the cooking I'll just crack an egg and dump it in the pot, then stir it around. Then there's little chunks of cooked egg all around the noodles. It's alright, I only add one sometimes.

I also add seasoned salt, oregano, pepper(black, red, lemon, whatever I feel like), soy sauce, and cheese. For the microwave ones I have at college, I just bring a little soy sauce packet, and I throw those nasty cardboard vegetables out. The lettuce is about the only good thing that comes in those, but I'm not gonna sit there and pick out the good parts

The great thing about ramen is it's such a blank template that can be improved upon by so many different additions. Pretty much whatever you like. You don't even have to use the salty flavor packet.

It's basically just cheap, quick noodles.

You misunderstand me. I love cheap easy food. I'm not claiming to be a healthy "real food" eater. I'm just not going to pretend Jell-O can ever be crme brule.

I'm not arguing about anyone eating cheap, unhealthy processed foods. I'm arguing about believing you can put lipstick on a Jell-O pig and call it crme brule.

because ramen has better taste and texture than other noodles. even adding all other ingredients, you still get a meal in under 15 minutes; that's pretty quick. if you're hungry, why would you settle for just noodles? that's why it's worth to make a full meal. (comparison to jello is absurd.)

i always add poached egg at the beginning, just after water is boiled. also add whatever can find in the fridge, like wonton, potstickers, lettuce. meat varies--bacon, leftovers, spam, chicken patties (cooked in convection oven simultaneously, then cut into strips). ramen is the last thing put in, to let other items cook more thoroughly.

I've learned something today then. If I add 5 different toppings on a pizza, it's no longer a pizza!

First, you're taking me too literally. When I say that it's not ramen, I don't mean "literally, I don't know what this is, is it technically ramen, I don't know!" I mean that it's far enough removed from standard ramen that it's essentially something else. Like ramen is supposed to be cheap. That's why it's popular. When you add relatively expensive ingredients, you take away the reason why ramen is so popular.

Second, pizza isn't ramen. That's an apples and oranges comparison. Toppings are an expected part of the pizza experience. If you buy a pizza, additional toppings are relatively cheap compared to the price of the pizza itself, and pizza isn't usually eaten specifically for being cheap, anyway.
