From like 12-3 (in America, times are different in other countries) there will be larvitars everywhere and if you get enough to evolve all the way to Tyraitar within the three hours it gets a special move

Also its 3x exp for every Pokmon caught in that time

Special move is the fast move Smackdown, btw, which will turn TTar into the game's top rock type attacker.

I just started playing again like two weeks ago and Im super obsessed again. Beat a bunch of gyms, did a raid, and I love this water month thing. Got my gyardos last night and it is now my strongest Pokmon

I havent gotten any shinys and have only seen them at gyms. Are they shiny when you see them on the map or do you have to battle to see them, or do you only know after catching them?

Shows when the capture screen starts. There's a sparkly animation plus you'll know from the different color. And, when you catch it, it'll have stars by its name when looking at your storage.

Usually the CD shiny rarity is 1/25 so they're pretty easy to find.

You only know when you load them up to catch. My shiny Charmander was noticeably in the catch screen iirc

Depends on your time zone. It's always 2-5 EST (in the USA) so that's... well, whatever it is in your time zone.

Well I got two shinys total, got one of them to tyranitar and one to the middle evolution, and then I got another regular one to tyranitar because I wanted one shiny and one regular.

That was fun!

4 shinies and a shiny omanyte, woo.

didn't learn smack down when i evolved it though, kind of bummed.

I got one shiny with decent stats and one other wonder evolved to TTar. So glad you can mass feed candies now.

Got 4 shines, two of which had decent IVs so they got evolved up

We were in a really high density area so I was able to get like 400 candy so Ive got 5 t-tar with smackdown, one of which has perfect IV

All in all very successful CD for me, although none of my T-tars got Stone Edge as their charge move and I currently have no charge TMs so that is a little annoying

Man, that was brutal out there. Hot day. Fewer Larvi spawns vs other community day Pokemon (think I only caught like 40 Larvis total? Granted, I think I pinapped everything so it was still a good amount of candy) and, of course, I didn't bother driving out to a more Ingress-blessed area or downtown in a larger city.

On the plus side, it was Sunny and Partly Cloudy the whole time, so I had the weather boost. Evo'd a lv35 (so-so IVs?) and then two other lv30+ ones, with 2 getting SE and 1 having Crunch which I'll need to TM. Was aiming to evo at least 3 during the event (to join my 3 Golems, which will likely be replaced by 3 Rhyperior) and got that done, so I'm happy there.

Caught at least 2 shinies, none with good IVs or a great level.

No perfect IV's, but I saved up a bunch of Pinap for this so plenty of candy. I caught 140 Larvitar total, and eleven and a half shinies..

Didnt remember it was CD until about half an hour until the end. Still, I managed to get 2 shinies, and enough candy to get smackdown. Solid.

9 shinies, 134 total Larvitar caught, got 4 Ttars with smack down and evolved two more after. Couldnt get any mono attackers, but also beat a Kyogre raid and caught it along with 2 fast tms.

Once shines are in the game they stay. Theyre just rare so the community day has good odds since there are so many spawns. If you really wanted a shiny charizard you could check out the silph road global atlas and find a charmander nest to farm until you caught one.

If you play community days, you're going to get shinies. The slightly rarer stuff is the promo/event shinies

You haven't really missed out on a shiny (because it's still there, just harder to get), but you've temporarily missed out on Blast Burn which is a bigger deal. However, even that you might have another chance at down the road. The only thing that's probably never coming back is the old legacy moves, so players who started early will always have an advantage thanks to SC Gengar.

It's not just a matter of there being more spawns, it's also more common to find shiny variants on CDs. And then there's Keyblader's half-shiny, a Larvitar which was shiny when he opened the capture screen but, because the event ended, it wasn't shiny when the capture registered.

Sure, it's certainly better than nothing and I'm happy to have the two that I do. However, I live in a pretty water-sparse biome so, prior to the series of Magikarp-friendly promos (Kanto, Earth Day, Water, etc), I had pretty much walked for nearly all of my Magikarp candy (probably 550k distance total -- some of which was during buddy events which gave me some extra candy -- with 353k distance logged on the 89% Magikarp that eventually became my first Gyarados). And, because of that, I can't bring myself to evolve either Magikarp when what I had really wanted all along was a usable red Gyarados.

At this point, I figure I might as well just wait evo'ing a shiny on the off-chance I find a nicer one down the road. All that aside, shiny Magikarp itself looks pretty awesome and I'd love to use it as a gimmick gym defender, particularly in a gold-themed gym (ie, shiny Sableye, shiny Poochyena/Mightyena, shiny Swablu/Alteria, etc)

Stop distro is what drives me crazy about the game, since there are places with stops on top of stops then other areas which have landmarks but no stops at all. (Largely thanks to the number of Ingress players who suggested nodes or whatever which, in turn, got carried over as stops and gyms.)

Draconious Go kinda handles its version of stops a lot better, but its monster placement is terrible since it's just tied into stops.

What do you mean by perfect?

100% IVs. While not as rare as 0% IVs (because eggs and raid rewards are minimum 10/10/10), they're a lot more useful =p My only known perfects atm are Espeon and Machamp.

On the Pokemon's information page, select Appraise. The Team Leader's quote will give you an idea of its stats (you'll have to look up the exact quotes; they vary by team). If they give all three parameters the highest rating, it has perfect stats.

It can actually say that without the pokemon being perfect. For example I recently got a 14/14/14 kabuto, in game appraisal says it is as good as can be and that all stats are equal, which they are, it just isnt a 100%

Theres a good app called pokegenie that helps you figure out exact IVs. It doesnt interact with the pokemon go app in any way so it doesnt break their ToU, you just take in game screenshots and the game gives you the stats based on your level, the CP, and the position of the pokemons level arc

It's dependent on what the leader says both before and after mentioning any particular stat(s). For Instinct for example, it's only perfect if Spark says it "can really battle with the best of them," mentions all three stats, then says it's "the best I've ever seen." If any of those three things don't happen, then it's not perfect.

It's still a good Pokemon. You're unlikely to find much better. And if you do, you can keep the new better one!

It's still a good Pokemon. You're unlikely to find much better. And if you do, you can keep the new better one!

I do like him. Haha. I think I got him from an egg. But I don't remember. I figured he's be good to keep around for a while. Plus, I very recently learned that level 20(or level 30) pokemon are bound to be much stronger. And I should try not to spend to much on the ones I have now. Because it can be much harder to level and stuff later on...
