Even though I didn't grow up in the 70s I identify with the music from that time the most. Specifically mid 60s to the late 70s.

For me it's 80's & 90's. I went with 90's because some of my favorite bands made their best music in that decade.

80s by far. Sure, I like some Beatles, Beach Boys, a bit of Elvis from time to time, but as an 80s kid, it was a good time for rock!

If you ask those that participated in this poll what decade were they in middle and/or high school I bet if you overlaid the two polls - it would line up almost exactly. It's only natural to think your generation of music is the best. So a poll like this will NEVER accurately portray which decade actually had the best music because it is based upon the age of those participating.

80s is probably when the most happened. Pop music became a thing (Michael Jackson), Metal and most of it's best forms became extremely popular, punk started turning into alternative and new wave (The Cure), even Rap was somewhat tolerable.

I'd say 60s or 70s, in terms of what was predominantly popular and what I think of as "belonging" to that decade. Of course I listen to stuff that is newer than that, but most of the time I don't think "Oh, yep, this definitely reflects the 2010s".

I'd prefer to think of it as your "favorite" era of music than "the best" though. Whatever answer people choose is going to largely reflect what genres they personally like. Decades that were great for some genres were bad for others.

Can we all agree that the 2000s was the worst post-60s, though? Rock music was dominated by horrible "post-grunge" butt rock, and hip-hop was dominated by crunk/stunting.

Nope. Graduated high school in 1964, and although I like all kinds of pop/rock from Les Paul to Shonen Knife, my favorites are Within Temptation, Cruxshadows, Dragonforce, etc. So my favorite music is 2000s.

80's > 60's > 70's > 50's > 90's > 40's > 30's > 20's > 2000's >present

I don't consider 90's bad but it's when things really started getting awful in my opinion.
Anyhow happens with everyone as they get older right?

70's-80's for sure. So many good hits. I'd give the edge to the 80's though. I love me some synth music.

I don't think so. Once you're outside of the bubble and do your research, you'll understand that the 80s and 90s was one of the best music eras (and 60s of course).

It's anecdotal, but I just graduated college and I did just that. It's the music and not the nostalgia for me.

80s. not really the biggest fan of a lot of 80s mainstream music but I love hardcore punk and stuff like that, and the 80s had some killer underground bands.
