Trinity Seven apparently has a super important announcement coming up. I wouldnt mind another season even though the lead girl was incredibly boring

So what was it? All I saw was that best girl's spinoff was ending

I just finished Saga of Tanya the Evil (another anime I felt I had to watch based off its awesome title). My first comment is, like... not everything needs to be an isekai. The story would barely need to change if Tanya wasn't the reincarnation of a Japanese salaryman, so why bother shoehorning that into an otherwise unique character idea and setting? Just have her be an ruthless little girl who hates god and the whole anime would be better for it.

That one nitpick aside, I enjoyed it! Tanya was a fun character and I liked watching her crush her enemies even as she simply tried to find a peaceful life. This comparison isn't perfect, but I also got an Ace Combat vibe from this with all the aerial battles and the main unit steadily gaining a frightening reputation by being the linchpin of so many operations.

Tanya is one of the few isekai that totally makes sense with coming from another world because it's not just the personality. he's using his knowledge of global events, tactics, and strategies in a world that's, generally speaking, a century behind. he's also understanding similarities between major historic events from our world and theirs and adapting it - to everyone else this gives the impression that Tanya is an unprecedented genius saint but he totally does not get that at all, it's just him going through the motions. it's another part of his communication failures, which is the most amusing thing in the whole series.

i'll definitely recommend checking the novels out though. they're super long too, nothing "light" about those enormous books. and hey, barnes and nobles still has their buy 2 get 1 free sale on yen press manga/light novels so it's a perfect time for that.

This is actually a good counterargument. I was thinking it could be written around in other ways (making her an actual tactical genius, for example) but I suppose that would run into a different problem of making her even more overpowered. The alternate reality knowledge is probably something that would come across more in the novels than it did in the anime, too. I might have to look into them in the future as you suggest!

Tanya is like the one time I can give a pass on being one of those reincarnated into another world shit. It's one of the few times they actually try and make sense out of the premise. Too often it's just, OK, you ended up here, have fun. Tanya also doesn't do like half of the shit the genre usually does. One of the few occasions it actually works, and I love it for it.

Well, yeah. In the end, if the show is good, I can sit through it. Although I'm a bit harder on it for being one of them

Tanya just went the extra mile to make things make sense, to make everything work. And that's one of the reasons I love it so much. In addition to just being so damn good.

I can't recall the last time I didn't ignore the karaoke in an anime either.

Reading lyrics while listening to music is always a detriment to the song in my experience, just a distraction. Guess it's different for you.

Going back to the conversation on isekai shows, I also watched Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody today (mostly because I'm trying to catch up on more 2018 stuff). It wasn't terrible but almost everything about it felt generic and it didn't do much of anything with the few interesting concepts it might've had. For example, for a society with so much slavery, the morality of it was barely examined at all. I did appreciate a few things, though. Actually seeing the main character interact with game mechanics was nice to have. Also the bland teenage MC casually going and banging some prostitutes was just about the last thing I expected from an anime like this, so good for it on surprising me I guess!

I've got a bit of a backlog of shows going right now but it looks interesting so I'll see about trying it in the near future. Thanks!
