It depends on the amount of unrealism (which isn't a word but whatever) and the overall tone of the world. Persona is set in the "real" world with magic, so it's reasonable to expect people to behave normally, as opposed to like crazy fantasy archetypes like Emperor Palpatine or something. In the case of Yusuke, I'm fine with him being like this reserved, dignified guy who's always calm and collected, but the extreme circumstance he was put in producing no visible reaction struck me as a bit wrong.

I still am curious why he hasn't shown up as a confidant, though.

Yes, I just got him. I was thinking maybe the reason I wasn't getting him as a confidant was that he was secretly going to betray me or something due to the opening scene where the cops said someone sold me out and that this was a subtle hint of his ill intentions, but apparently I was just completely wrong.

I think I didnt finish several Confidants by the time I beat the game. I might have only even finished two or three of the party ones, but Im not positive. I wasnt concerned with managing my first run because I thought Id love the game enough to immediately replay it.

I understand the purpose of Mishima's arc

he just sucks

the best thing about Mishima is that since his Confidant auto-levels and the game gives you plenty of opportunities to be mean to him you can do it with impunity

I think I remember Makoto as well from my waifu topic, but I remember almost nothing about her. Luckily the main thing I remembered about Ann from it was just the catsuit. I did remember Takemi and Kawakami from the topic, though. I kind of wish I hadn't, I really wish I'd gone into the maid thing blind.

Mishima will move to new areas as the game progresses. I forget at what point you gain access to Shinjuku, but that where he starts appearing next. I think you can go there early if you read certain books.

Shinjuku opens during the investigation lead-up to Kaneshiro's Palace so Anagram has it. Mishima should be there now. His link is tied to the Mementos Requests he gives you but based on Anagram's talk of how he passed on a chance to advance Mishima's link before that shouldn't be the problem.

Basically, keep your eye on Shinjuku at night for him to pop-up. Or if he still refuses to after a couple of nights, start heading there personally maybe to check (I'm not 100% sure if he appears grey if he's waiting on you to clear requests or if he just doesn't show as available). If you find him and talking to him has him end the conversation with something like, "yo remember that request i gave you? i know the phantom thieves can do it!" that means you need to do some of the requests he gave you before he'll advance his link.

On the plus side, since Mishima periodically issues those requests, the fact that you haven't seen him for a bit means you might be able to knock out a few of those requests in a single Mementos trip so you'll be good to advance him a few ranks before you need to dive back in to clear more of his requests. If you've got a few of them laying around that is.

He literally progresses automatically each time you see a scene with him. You don't have to increase his affinity or whatever like the other characters.

No one said you did! Affinity has nothing to do with Mishima's link advancing, you can be a jerk to him every time and it's fine. However Mementos Requests 100% dictate his link.

There are certain requests you must complete to advance his link. If you don't do them Mishima will just stand wherever he happens to be and you can talk to him but you will never have the option to spend time with him.

On certain days you'll get a scene in class where you'll get the option to do something. Read/Make an infiltration tool/Study/Sleep. The days are pre-determined so it's out of your control. You'll know when it happens though.

Got to Twins level 4, got about halfway (I assume) in the bank. I was forced to stop when I simply straight ran out of SP for everyone except Yusuke, who I never used (and who didn't have a healing skill to spend in the menu).

I changed my mind and decided to keep going even though I was very low on resources. I dedicated most of my SP restoring items to it and I'm too invested to give up now, but I've lost twice now in the same area due to extremely low resources. But I know I'm almost on top of the treasure and I'd waste an entire day on like one short part if I went back now.
