So, I start my new job on Tuesday. Sweat pants are not allowed but it is casual.

I like sweat pants.

I have sweat pants and dress clothes. The Jeans I have are too large on me (I've lost weight).

So, I have to go clothing shopping, every mans favorite thing in the world (well maybe some like it).

Anyway my choices are Burlington clothes factory, which I have never even heard of, Sears (which I thought was going out of buisiness) and Target.

I'm guessing Target probably has the best deals/cheapest prices, but....I could be wrong so I am seeking the infinite wisdom of the PotD board to help me decide where to go.

Does anyone know anything about that burlington factory place? It's actually closest to me, so I could just stop there and see what they have, but don't want to waste time if it's expensive.

This is casual stuff like cargo pants etc....just a step up from sweat pants. Would really prefer if I could find pants that have an elastic waste band so if my weight changes more, I can still wear them.

Also need a new "don't want to look homeless" light jacket. My 2 tech jackets are decades old, and have magnets in them, so they drag along cars if I walk near them, and now always look dirty even after just washing them. Therefore, I need a non-homeless light jacket to hold my wallet etc.

I already have had a nice hair cut and shave, so just need clothing that looks fairly good and i'm set.

Oh I also won't be posting much as I'll be working a ton of hours and until midnight or so (from 10 am)...so um....it was nice knowing you all (I'll still stop by, just....probably very rarely.)

Go to salvation army cus they usually have decent standards for the clothes they sell and will be way cheaper than target. I buy all of my clothes (formal and casual) from there, besides things like socks and underwear, of course

No luck at all on my first run.

Went to 4 stores, burlington, a local clothing store, value market and good will.

Got 1 pair of pants out of all that.

I don't think no pants is allowed although they didn't specifically say that. They said no shorts and no sweatpants......but they didn't say no, no pants, so hmmm maybe.

I need to measure my waist again since 42 is probably too large now, but the problem I have always had is I'm a micheal phelps type of build, much longer on top then on bottom. I'm well, just 6 foot now (used to be 6'1) but only wear a 32 length pair of pants. Most pants in my waist size (was a 42), are longer sigh....and it's expensive to have them altered (freaking $12 here).

I called it after 4 stores as all of them are having specials on monday and I hate buying things a few days before they are going to be on sale (in most cases for half off!).

Buying pants has always been irksome for me. I'm 6'1 and skinny af so when I buy my actual waste size the legs are always way too short so I have to buy a bigger waste size in order to get my leg size right. Thankfully belts help a great deal here. -_-

Yeah, I use belts normally as well, but not wearing a belt for 12 hours + no way. Working 10 am to 11pm with the possibility of more for over time = need comfy clothes.

Reminds me I wanna buy another pair of ninja shoes for the comfort level. They are like slippers so super easy to wear for a day without getting your feet tired/sore. Those at least are just $20 on Amazon.

I did at least get my super expensive Scottevest totally cleaned, so it looks brand new. I have 2 of them actually so will clean the other one eventually as well. Went to get another and they are $175 now...so yeah, that was great. Didn't see anything comparable out there when shopping.

I ditched the sleeves on both of em years ago, since I never used em. They are light, not hat, with tons of pockets, so it's perfect for me.

So I have plenty of nice T-shirts (allowed), and a jacket and shoes etc (though I'll get more ninja shoes), just need a wider selection of pants. Wish sweat pants were allowed though, it's silly they are not. Would make life so much easier. I need to double check that.

I worked 12 hour shifts. Can't say having a belt on bothered me. Mind you I'm used to them by now.

Alright, time for some cold hard truth. Sweatpants are awful, and other than for exercise you should be embarrassed to leave your house wearing them.

Buy some jeans. Wear a belt. Old Navy, if there's one near you, even has jeans with elastic waist, and they don't look completely awful, if you're really against wearing a belt for whatever reason.

I have no clue what this is, but I assume it looks awful.

It's really not. Sweatpants look trashy as hell, and I wouldn't want my employees to look like they just rolled out of bed.

Congrats on the new job tho

I mean, there are different types of sweatpants, mine are quite nice, but yeah, it's very casual.

I did look at the ones from old navy, but there isn't one near me. Gonna try target and sears on Monday though.

Looks don't really matter this is a call center job for Conduent (in this case working for Verizon). I mean, no customers etc, and it's a freaking long day (12 hours) so yeah, I want something comfy. I have dress clothes and belts etc, but I'm not gonna wear that all day long.

It's much harder to find comfy casual clothes. I guess I could get jeans but due to my mutant body (i have like no hips), I pretty much have to wear a belt with them.

I've worked in professional settings all of my life, no problem, and I still have dress clothes I can wear, just seriously no reason to do so for this job and comfort is paramount.

Time for more hard truths. Looks always matter. You don't want to overdue it, but how you dress impacts how people perceive you. I assume the end goal here isn't to move up the chain, but "dressing like a slob" will cause others (particularly older people in upper management) to view you in that light, making you have to work harder for raises or promotions than you would have to if you dressed up a bit.

I agree, it's a call centre job that likely doesn't matter and you've mentioned you've worked in professional settings, but this is advice that is always applicable. The world should be based purely on merit and skills, but so long as it's run by humans, we'll continue taking other factors into consideration.

I legit find dress pants to be the comfiest pants. They just look silly with a t-shirt, so I only wear them at work, otherwise I'd probably wear them all the time.

And I've worked a 28 on 28 off rotation schedule working 80+ hours a week for a year, and wore dress clothes and a belt the entire time. I've literally never thought once that a belt is uncomfortable to be perfectly honest. I've never even heard other people say belts aren't comfortable. This is literally new to me.

The lack of hips is what makes them uncomfortable for me as they have to be tight (the belt that is) to keep the pants from falling down. I can (and have) used suspenders before (When teaching especially since there was lots of moving around), but that requires an under-shirt which won't work for a long term position in a fairly warm setting (not for me at least).

I have worked long shifts before, but I was younger, and comfort is important to me. This job only pays decently if you work a freakton lol.....which is my plan. A 40 hour week (which isn't even allowed...min 45 hours at this location), barely pays over minimum wage (something like $2500 a month), a 48 hour week, done in 4 days, which is my baseline...is about $3500, so almost an extra $1000 a month for 8 more hours.

If you do 60 though (which is what I will be trying to do), that last day makes another $400 a week or so, since it's all over time, and a bunch more bonus money for calls (You get bonus $ per call you do over a minimum).

Main reason I'm doing this job when I have my teaching credentials, a masters degree, years working in a law office, Electronic techs license etc is it's constant work (no down time), working with people, and in a relaxed/comfortable setting. It pretty much hits all the requirements I'm looking for, other then the need to work so many hours to make a decent amount of money.

I would rather work 30 hours to be honest, then 60, but if I like the job, that won't matter to much. Alot rides on if I like the job or not.
