well, if what she says is true i can understand being frustrated. if my arm hurt and my doctor made a comment about my weight i'd be like 'wut'.

this topic title is rather disingenuous. she's mad because the doctor tells her to lose weight when it wasn't relevant to the reason she was in his office. she's mad because people constantly tell her she's unhealthy "out of concern". i dont think at one point she ever denied the reality that obesity is unhealthy, she's just tired of how people treat her because of it.

A doctor is supposed to care about your health though. If they see something not healthy, they should be mentioning it.

I mean if you walk in and say your arm hurts and also happen to have a bleeding wound on your leg, the doctor should mention something to you about your leg.

Exactly. The doctor took a look at the bite and determined that's the least of her problems.

The doctor is concerned about her weight and this bitch goes on a poetry rant over some bullshit.

Is the doctor suppose to ignore your fat until you get wheeled into the emergency room for a quadruple bypass heart surgery? Then say, its not your fault this happened, and its the worlds.

I don't mind if people have opinions but when you're literally killing yourself every day, and someone who is looking at your life chart that goes back to when you were little then points that out with intent to help you make better choices, you turn around and flip that person the bird then go on a four hour rant on how you're trying to make valid points of nothing when you health is still declining and how you're the victim of circumstance because a doctor said you're obese and that you should make some changes.

Maybe she should get a different doctor then?

But also the doctor can make the argument that low blood pressure would mean the body is less equipped to heal itself due to a lower number of white blood cells passing through the area, and the antibiotics prescribed for a spider bite would be less effective.

So yes she has every right to be offended and maybe the doctor could've said some about her weight in a nicer way, but if she's just pissed about the doctor stating a scientific fact that being obese is unhealthy than it's all on her. She's causing her self to be "triggered", because yes there are many ways to lose weight. It's not easy and it relies heavily on changing their lifestyle but it's still possible. Unlike short men who can't get any taller no matter what they do.

My grandmother broke her wrist when she fell, she went in for xrays and the edge of the xray had part of her chest in it. When looking at the x-ray, the realized she had very early stage lung cancer, they were able to remove it before it became a bigger issue. So yeah I think doctors should address medical issues that they see even if the person didn't initially come in to be treated for it.

No, you cannot walk into a doctor's office and expect the doctor to only pay attention to what you came in for.

No, you cannot stroll into a doctor's office and expect the doctor to not give you an analysis of your blood pressure, something he does for every patient indiscriminately.

No, you cannot waltz into a doctor's office and expect the doctor to hand over a prescription for antidepressants willynilly and be pissed when the doctor offers a healthier, natural alternative that doesn't rely on pharmaceuticals; exercise promotes healthier and happier lifestyles.

Yes, you're free to rant and moan and groan as much as you want about how your doctors and how this world treats you cause this is America, land of the free. But no, you're not entitled to their respect. Sorry. (Not sorry.)

absolutely.

im saying that i can empathize with her frustrations as someone who used to have a drinking problem. i knew i drank too much and so did my doctor. but if i went to visit my doctor about something completely unrelated to my drinking and he said "yeah, it looks like you have an infection in that cut alright. by the way, do you know that you drink too much and that's unhealthy?" i would be sort of irritated.

on the other hand, i understand that he has an obligation to look after my health and neglecting to mention a serious health issue might be considered him failing to do his duties as my doctor.

yes, well, the thing is, this is why it sucks when you guys pretend to care about fat peoples health when you really just want to shame them and make yourself feel better

because then they feel more justified in ignoring actual advice from real professionals due to their perception that it is a social pressure thing rather than, you know, an objective assessment

of course, maybe I suffer from 'trump voter justification syndrome' -- like how pro-trump people will scapegoat liberal attitudes as the reason for voting for racists, maybe fat people just scapegoat assholes as their reason for ignoring legit advice. I guess we'll never know

I went in for the flu once and come out with a prescription for my Acne. My dentist didn't just pull the rotten tooth, but went for cavity or bite problem he could find.

Even under the best of circumstances you can't expect your doctor to not give you medical advice to your health when you go in. Looking at her, he probably sees even more reason to do so because that isn't slightly overweight. She looks like her ankles will break under her weight (happened to 2 of my aunts).

Meanwhile, I'm sorry, but others don't exist to prop up your self esteem issues. Fat acceptance is a byproduct of people that don't like what they are but don't want to change, so they try and make everyone love them because otherwise they can't love themselves. I can respect Garfield's old "I'm Fat, I'm Lazy, and I'm proud of it" as a lifestyle choice, but if she thought that, the Doctor's words wouldn't bother her.
