Valve really doesn't give a flying fuck anymore, it's less about quality control and more about milking as much money as possible without actually doing any work themselves. Since it's valve however the fanboys will rally and defend them to the death.

I think I know what you are talking about and it wasn't removed because of being a bad game. It was removed because the developers tried to sue people leaving negative reviews.

For the most part I do agree with you. However it does have some negatives. For instance if I want to look at getting a new game I have to know exactly what game I want. The reason being because the search feature will flood you with 1000s of cheap crap games. Sure you can narrow the search down but steam will only let you filter so much. The last thing I want is to search through 1000s of cheap 2 dollar junk games to try and find 1 decent real game.

Maybe sort by price and then have the list sort so the most expensive games are first? It won't eliminate crap games, but it'll make it so you can stop looking once you get to the $2 section.

Admittedly I was being hyperbolic. Because yes you can filter games based on price. However there are 1000 of cheap 5$ games as well which gets you into the same problem. As well as 10$ games, and 15$ games, and 20$ games. Basically unless you look at full priced games your gonna get flooded with garbage.

I believe youre thinking of Air Control, but the actual justification was probably copyright (it was abusing assets that ship with the Unity engine that are only meant for non-production test projects).

Agreed I rely on the wish list too. But that kinda gets back to my original point. You ether have to know the game that you want or you get lucky and randomly come across it and save it to your wish list. You can't really just browse new games without having to swim through the muck.
Don't get me wrong though it's not a big problem. It's just that with 1000s of cheap games constantly flooding steam it really becomes a hassle to just see if maybe there's something new you've never heard of.

It absolutely does.

Any Joe Schmoe with Gamemaker and $100 to burn can get on the service now and bypass what little Quality Control Valve once had.

Worse are the waves of asset flippers- this is actually a pretty big problem now- repackaging the same crap under a different title, and giving them tons of useless achievements like 'play for 1 minute", "play for 2 minutes!"

And people will buy these en masse, and Valve gets their cut regardless. It's a problem, alright.

No, it really didn't. Some attempt was made with Greenlight. Access, they simply let anyone on once they get their $100 for the new game. People have uploaded nothing and still release. One 'game' was a text file.

Idiots and promises of free keys. The number of votes requires meant that simply making accounts that could vote (and be counted as a legit account) would be significant.

Like tens of thousands of verified accounts (verified accounts requires at least $5 spent on the Steam store, keys don't count), minimum. Somewhat more than a random person could make to get a game released.

Should have cards.

There's new rules on those now.
I don't think you can add cards until your game has been deemed worthy for a while first (excluding AAA titles I'll bet).

I wanted to add cards for ODW and couldn't a couple weeks ago, but for my first game a couple years ago I could add them no problem. Maybe the game has to make back the $100 fee first? It's another way they're cracking down on crap games that are only there to dole out tons of cards for the sole purpose of making devs rich (I guess?)

They changed cards a little over a year ago.

Now, cards won't unlock until the game has sold a certain number of copies on the Steam store, and enough people have legitimately played the game.

Back in Greenlight, adding cards to all your games and giving out 10000 free keys was an easy way to make some money. However, the games had to get through Greenlight, so they still had to succeed before they could make money.

With the current system they have, it would be even more profitable, simply because you could pay $100 to get the game on, give away the 10000 keys, and make about $300 on the card sale fees. People would just pump out free keys for money, but with the change, those games won't drop cards. People need to actually buy and play the game, and no one ever bought or played those free games, they just farmed and sold cards.

Valve didn't want other companies getting our money, they want it for themselves. -_-

I was joking. The new system is bad too though. They only count sales from the actual Steam store and they have to make like 15k in sales or something like that. You can add them anyway but they just won't drop. The system is bad since even games that sale well still take forever to have cards drop. The new system only benefits AAA developers and indie devs are fucked by Valve.
