22 y/o Letitia Chai, a senior at Cornell University stripped to her UNDERWEAR to present her thesis to fight "opressive beliefs" after her FEMALE PROFESSOR questioned the shorts she was wearing.

She removed her clothes in front of teachers and students during her honours thesis presentation as she said it was against her White Teacher, Rebekah Maggor who told Letitia that her shorts were TOO SHORT during a trial run of her presentation

She said she wore a blue button down and cutoff jean shorts when her teacher went to her to question her choice of clothing..

Letitia ssaid "The first thing the professor said to me was 'is that really what you would wear? She, a white woman, Your shorts are too short. The professor proceeded to tell me, in front of my whole class, that i was inviting the male gaze away from the content of my presentation and onto my body. She said i was making a statement by wearing my outfit. I told her that i sure as hell wouldn't change my statement to make her or anyone else feel more comfortable."

A Male Asian student AGREED with the TEACHER and Letitia left the room at that point...the teacher then came out to tell her "what would her mother think of her clothing"

Letitia said to her "My mom is a feminist, gender and sexuality studies professor. She's fine with my shorts. Mrs Maggor acted like i was dressing like a slut in class"

Maggot, oopsa a poo, i mean Maggor responded to the accusation and said she acknowledges the friction between her and Letitia but doesn't tell students what to wear and what constitutes as appropriate and just asks them to reflect for themselves and make their decisions on how they want to be perceived by society and how to act "professional".

Is Letitia Hot? let's see what people think

Why is there no picture of her shorts?

Also, it's a college class. Most people know you can't dress in short shorts for everything. The important part is knowing when certain clothes are or aren't appropriate. College classes are normally in the "appropriate" category.

What kind of weird college did you go to? College classes are normally in the "if the sweatpants are clean then it must be a special occasion" category, at least once you get past the first year and everyone realizes that there's no point in being a tryhard.

You can just barely see them in first pic. They seem to come to about mid thigh. They seem plenty long to me but it is hard to accurately know.

But lmfao at actually stripping in class. I wonder if that school is normally so hilarious.

I think I am, upon rereading your post. I thought you were saying college classes warranted "appropriate" attire, when in actuality it seems you were saying that shorts are appropriate for college classes. My mistake, sorry for the confusion.

Self-respect entails spending more money on clothes than is necessary and wearing something less comfortable? That sounds more like respect for arbitrary social norms than for oneself.

It's called showing some fricken respect to your superiors. I wore baseball hats all the time in high school and some teachers cared and some didn't. I simply took off the stupid hat for those who did care. It's not that big of a deal...every god damned thing is not worth making a fuss over. You want people to respect your opinions/beliefs? Well it's a 2 way street.

Some places have dress codes...get used to it...it's part of life. If you work at Target can you wear whatever you want? No you have to wear whatever the hell Target tells you is appropriate. The same applies here.

When you're giving a presentation in class, don't dress like slob, slut, etc. I bet if she wasn't giving a presentation the teacher wouldn't have said anything to her. It's not hard...

That's just not true. Some do and some don't. My girlfriend is a high ranking employee at a dental school and there is a dress code there. In fact there's 2 dress codes. One for the classroom and one for the clinic.

Obviously most schools don't have a strictly followed code, but I guarantee even those universities have some policy in writing.

Most dental, medical, military, and some religious based schools have dress codes.

Even if there is no dress code, teachers opinion matter, and while the teacher should not mark down your grade based on how your dressed, it can color their opinion of the over all presentation and affect your grade.

Therefore, if you are trying for a decent grade, you should dress to impress. Much like if you are going to work.

In this case her underwear was less reveling then some swim suits.

I don't fault her teacher, though, giving a presentation is ....well about presentation and giving advice on how you present yourself...makes sense if your a teacher in that situation.

Oh good to know that you know every college's dress code policy on the planet.

Jesus how hard is this to comprehend? If you are going to class for a lecture that kind of attire would be appropriate...if you're giving a presentation dress the part. There's a term called "college casual" for a reason.

Certain types of clothes are appropriate for different social situations. For example if you are going out on a first date with someone what would you wear in the following situations?

You're going for a hike

You're meeting up at a bar

You're going to a 3 michelin star restaurant for dinner

Point is that there is attire that is more appropriate for each of those social situations. Sure you can wear what the hell ever you want to any of those scenarios...but good luck getting a second date if you dress like a yahoo.

idk what kind of shit college Cornell actually is, but for my presentations in college it was emphasized by the professors that you must dressed professionally.

It's like, people don't understand the point of college. Is not about shoving information down your throat, you can do that just fine on your own. It's about learning how to act and react in a professional environment.

No offense, but if you come to an event or a presentation wearing shorts (be it a man or woman) I will immediately think of you as a kid and pay no attention to you.
