Write-Up:
I'm betting most who hear this will be like "I didn't know this wasn't an original by Heart" but yep folks Heart ripped this off... or did they? No they didn't actually. They were given permission to do the song but no one had any idea that Hearts version would do so well commercially. Hearts version spent a few weeks at No.1 on the Billboard hot 100 but unfortunately that data can't be used to bump this song. i-Ten (Not to be confused with rap artist I-10 who coincidentally enough made a song titled "Alone" too) was not quite so successful with this tune. You can almost tell why as it just feels off. I think it's because it's slower paced and not as passionate as Heart's version. It's kind of interesting that this song is one of the most used songs on American Idol but not so much.

Best Version IMO:
Heart - Bad Animals - 1987

This starts out like a Zeppelin classic but that feeling is quickly lost as it moves into Heavy Metal territory. This isn't what I'd honestly call Heavy Metal btw even though it has been labeled as such. The internet tells me it is Heavy Metal so I have to go with it. The problem I guess I have with a lot of the older Metal bands is that so many of the songs never really have a climax. It's almost like a monotonous jam session that barely strays from the beat and rhythm of itself. While during that jam session it may sound in your head like there was a bit of variety but then when you go to listen to a recording afterward you find that most of it is quite similar. I know some bands like to use the same chords and scales in their music but that is what I'd find comparable to a "monotonous" jam session. There is a solo in here that is ok but the beat is the best thing about this song imo.

So, I've heard somewhere before that Screeming Trees was at the forefront of the Grunge movement but someone will have to confirm this for me since this is the first time I'm really hearing anything from them.

Confirm. They (along with Green River) were some of who originally started the grunge movement in Seattle. Screaming Trees is definitely my favorite among the grunge bands that didn't get real big like Nirvana and Pearl Jam
