My bf is always using it and he looks ridiculous trying to look cool in the selfies he takes on it, or whatever. I tried using it and the UI just confused me. What exactly does this service offer that others don't?

I don't understand it, either. I want to use it with my friends, but I also have nothing to really take pictures of. Except my two puppers. But I don't go out as much anymore. My sister is always using it. I wish I understood it...

I genuinely believe that it was created for safely sending nudes lol. Because the videos and pictures disappear, and you cant screenshot them without the sender knowing.

I use it. It's easier to take videos and picture of things and immediately "snapping" them to close friends rather than using your camera app and sending them through text message or uploading to FB. Used it pretty extensively on vacation just a few days ago. My only gripe is that Snapchat compresses media so much and the quality is sometimes significantly less than ideal.

Not a difficult app to use, and not just for teens/kids (I'm almost 27). If you have a reason to use it, it's convenient and worth having, but it's certainly not for everyone.

I mean, I understand it for sharing nudes, but I don't get into that kind of thing. The part I don't really understand is for other uses, but I guess the type of people who constantly share pictures are probably the ones who post ten selfies to IG/FB each week.

I mean I'm sure some people use it for nudes but that isn't the main use from what I am seeing.

It's an extremely social application. So everything is vain and over dramatic. I really don't like it, especially since it's so reliant upon itself and that gets people hooked.
My girlfriend's friends find me adorable though cause I guess she posts things about me a lot cause I like to do little things a lot like get her teddy bears, flowers, go on walks, etc. I never know if the pictures are personal or not except if we're just taking a picture in bed and her nipple is out or something.
She does like their easy filter settings.

And even then it's pointless, since you can save/screenshot stuff on it now.

When I mention filters, that might not be the best term. It'll add little things to the pictures, like the date or hearts or something.

I think it's best for capturing and sharing funny, cool or interesting parts of your daily life, whether you are doing or watching something happen, or you just see something funny/cool at the store or while you're out and about. It's also great for travelling and letting friends see what you're up do.

I've had it for at least 5 years and have never once used it for nudes (sent or received). And I'm 29 and have lots of same age friends who use it so it's really not a "young and hip thing".

I know, it's kinda dumb. Most people just use it to record cool stuff and send it to friends, or talk to people, but both don't make sense to me. If I wanted to record something, I'd want other people to see it after 24 hours, and if I wanted to talk to somebody, I'd text or call them, or just meet them in person.

I mean i guess it's understandable to show off little things you come across, but I dunno. I hate using it cuz i don't care about the nonsense all the people post, and I only really talk to a handful of people on a daily basis, so if I wanted to show them something, I'd send them a pic thorough messenger.

Oh god, I agree with this too, every once in a while I'll get a video from a friend and she has the stupid high-pitched voice thing on, and I have a hard enough time understanding people's voices in general, so it's just headache inducing to try and listen to a chipmunk talk to me.

10% nudes, 90% other uses

Its basically just trying to show your friends and family how cool and funny you are through pictures and videos that you can write captions over.

I went on a trip to Europe and there is a statue of a guy fighting babies in Norway so I posted a snap of it with the caption "What kind of sick freak sends babies to fight me."

There are "stories" which are videos and images that people can look at all day and then you can send snaps directly to people. The stories are the most used part of the app.
