Wait so Americans, who have houses the size of cities, don't have specialized devices for heating water, while everyone else does?

I'll be honest, I have no idea where anyone with a smaller kitchen than mine would keep a crock pot, let alone something as redundant as an electric kettle. Unless they just don't have a stove

i'm korean american

we keep an electric kettle

a lot of american households also don't use rice cookers for some reason

like

there's literally no reason not to get one

Now a rice cooker is one specialized device that I had to find room for. Sure, you can make rice in a saucepan but the cooker does it 1000% better.

That's true

Also anything slow cooked can be done in a rice cooker :)

Electric Kettles are cordless or plug in kettles that heats up water without the use of a stove top..but americans don't use it because it's "too slow".

wut

my electric heats up the water to 185F in like 60 seconds. doing that on the stove would take like 3-4 minutes

Probably depends on the quallity of the kettle..

Mine heats a bit slower after the time i tried heating milk in it...

TLDR? Bad idea, burnt milk REEKS.

Why do people think electric kettles are slower than stove top ones? Electric is faster by far and if you don't know this, you can even google it.

Yeah
All it is is heat applied slowly.
In fact pressurized rice cookers often do a much better job imo

In fact I've made ramen in a rice cooker before lol

that isn't how it works Im pretty sure

Kinda is, less voltage means it will be slower than in the UK, but it is still a lot faster than stovetop. But since most Americans tend to not need boiled water as much, they really don't care.

Full disclosure I've only regularly used Korean and Japanese rice cookers to great effect. Most American rice cookers I've used are pretty terrible. But I've only used three or four I think

I use neither of those. I have an Insinkerator instant hot water unit installed under my sink. It provides boiling hot water on demand whenever I want it. If you're an avid coffee/tea drinker and have your own home, these are amazing.

Watts are calculated using volts, a low amount of volts is going to lower watts anyways. Though not sure what the amps are for UK and I think the max amps in US is 15. Could be wrong though.

not really

I mean, that is plausible technically, but I don't think that is how it works. I'm not sure, either. But higher volts definitely doesn't just mean higher watts, and the U.S. technically has 240V currents that we step down for most (but not all) appliances anyway

kinda neat, but at $400, that seems steep. im very particular about my coffee and i want my water at a precise temperature. it looks like some offer the option to adjust the temp but it doesn't have indicators about the actual temperature, just a dial?

also having a nice kettle allows precision pouring via gooseneck

Yes it is. All Watts is is Volts x Amps. If Volts are low, Watts will be low. Normal houses are 120V, except for the locations where heavy appliances such as the washing machine are plugged in, which is 240V.

also, with a stove top it's harder to set a precise temperature. with my electric i can dial in 185F or 195F and it'll get exactly that temperature.

According to statistics, electric kettles are NOT used in the United States..in fact it's VERY RARE that you see americans owning electric kettles when most other countries have at least both.

The premise for this topic is so stupid, electric kettles are certainly a thing that you can easily buy at any appliance retailer or department store.

But I don't know how to do that :( You make a solid point though.

I just hate hyperbole that gives the wrong impression about a country or culture.

Electric kettle is WAY faster.

I also just got one for 45 bucks that you can set the temp and it regulates it for an hour. It's perfect for getting the exact temperatures I want for coffee and tea
