Your parents are multi-billionaires. They love you, but they insisted you live a normal life so you don't have access to any of their wealth or connections. They raised you, fed you, kept a roof over your head until you were 18 but that's all.

Would you be upset if you were not included in their will, instead they are choosing to donate their fortune to charity?

Why would I be upset? I didn't earn any of their wealth.

Probably a little bit, but if they raised me to be humble and hard working I couldn't hold that against them.

It would depend on my own financial situation.

It would be a foolish parent to not allow their child access to their connections.

And even so, name alone would have helped me immensely (I can hire Bill Gates child, or some random graduate... I'm probably hiring the child of Bill Gates), so there's no way the child could ever have a "normal" upbringing.

Chances are, even without an inheritance, I would be far better off financially than the average person, so I doubt I would care a ton.

Even if I was okay with it that would suck balls. The concept of inheritance has existed for a long time and if they raised me to be hard working and humble I'd like to think that my parents would trust me with a portion of their wealth after they pass away. Regardless of my financial situation, which growing up in that environment and with those parents should have made me able to make my own money.

Probably but id have burned that bridge when i was 18 anyways from the sound of it so its not like id have been expecting a change of heart from them just because they were finally dying.

i'll be made if they don't help me out in my dumb investment ideas, but i won't hold an grudge against them. they are my parents. I still think if i ask them to take me to see this exotic places they will still take me which is a privilage most people don't have.

I'd be mad. Not necessarily at not getting free money, but because I think it's the role of a parent to make their kids lives as easy as they can.

I'm fine with them not giving a kid anything while they're growing up and making their own way in the world, but once a parent dies that kid should already have that kind of work ethic/lifestyle instilled in them. If they don't, that just means you fucked up as a parent.

I wouldn't know any differently, I suppose.
If they raised me to not expect anything from them, and they didn't allow me access while coming up I wouldn't expect to get anything from them.
I imagine at some point I'd be able to assume that they could have done more financially, but I doubt it'd be the same.

Would be more annoyed in that scenario that they cut me out of their connections (which can be worth more than the money itself) and wealth while alive. If the hypothetical folks were dicks all along and I knew they had no intention of leaving me anything, I'm not sure how much that would specifically bother me compared to the overall treatment. Frankly, on principle (and because that upbringing would result in a different personality) I'd probably try to amass a fortune so I could use to undermine everything they built.

Long ago, I'd have no qualms with this kind of mentality. Nowadays? Connections & resources are the cornerstone of succeeding in life. No inheritance is fine, but blocking your child from the benefits of having a wealthy & well connected parent, practically borders on the line of sabotage.

Doesn't sound like they love you very much then. The whole reason to be a parent is to take care of your children. You can easily raise a child correctly regardless if you have money or not.

I'd think my parents don't really love me that much, but I guess I'd live.

As it is, my parents will cost me money when they die. They have nothing but junk that will be time consuming and take some money to dispose of.

That seems counterintuitive to me. Obviously a large windfall is nice, but the money ends eventually right? If you're banking on an inheritance in order to retire, presumably that means that there won't be much money left to pass on to your children; unless your parents have an ungodly amount of money that it could sustain multiple generations.

Don't get me wrong, I'd be very appreciative of any money my family left me, and I'd certainly put it to good use... But I'm basing my retirement plans around the assumption that my parents and grandparents will spend every dime they have before they die.

One fun thing about not having kids... No worries about leaving any behind.

Not that retirement seems obtainable to begin with at this point.

Off the topic, I think making your kid's life easy is a mistake.
