I was looking at getting an Xperia XZ2 compact despite the lack of headphone jack as there was an offer for free 180 bluetooth earphones.

They have a battery life in use of...

3.

FUCKING.

HOURS.

What is this fucking garbage? Evidently the tech isn't up to speed yet manufacturers still insist on removing the jack.

Am I missing something?

And that's why I picked up a Galaxy S9, despite loathing Samsung's software additions.

Took a while to disable everything I didn't want and get it close enough to my old Nexus,, but it was worth it.

I'm still trying to figure out why they stopped putting buttons in phones. I have a Galaxy S7 Active because it has buttons. That's seriously my primary reason for getting this phone. S8 Active doesn't have buttons, so I have no interest in it.

What the fuck, people. Put buttons and headphones jacks on the phones. Stop taking shit away that we use.

Well everyone else is doing it because Apple did it first. Apple did it because it lets them make their phones thinner and making things thin is Apple's claim to fame.

Because software buttons are actually reliable, I've had more physical buttons fail on me.

Honestly I'm surprised Sony didn't try to make their own proprietary connector.

S8 and s9 "button" is still there. Just not physically. Its the only one that does need to be shown on the screen to work, at least in my experience.

Also the removal of the headphone jack has nothing to do with waterproofing or making phones thinner. All it has to do is with companies saving money on not having to put in that one part.
Iphone 6/6s/7/8 are all the same size, as you can use 7 and 8 cases on a 6 and 6s. Only reason youd have to get a new case going from a 6/6s is cause the camera difference.

Samsungs are rated ip68 and have a headphone jack, iphones are a ip67 and no headphone jack, so that negates the waterproofing arguments

I've literally never had this happen. Meanwhile software buttons can stop working if the program freezes, which does happen.

If a program freezes, no button, physical or otherwise, would work.

My Nexus 2012 has had working software buttons for years. It works better than hardware buttons honestly. And locks up just as often.
The power button is still physical.
The real problem is taking screenshots on these new phones

No, I can still use the Home button when a program freezes, and sometimes Back button too.

Plus I hate how easy it is to accidentally hit software or (especially) capacitive buttons. A physical button requires real force, so you don't accidentally hit them. Other than cost cutting, there wasn't a good reason to switch to software buttons. They're just inferior.

And you can use screen buttons then too. You can only not use your screen buttons when the OS freezes, and when that happens it won't accept ANY input, physical or no.

They're at the very bottom of the phone and don't protrude, how are you accidentally hitting them?

SushiSquid posted...
A physical button requires real force, so you don't accidentally hit them.

And software buttons only need a light touch so you don't need to "real force" every action.

A smooth front is aesthetically pleasing and software buttons don't suffer from wobbles over time or mechanical failure. As long as you can power off/reset/debug with physical buttons, more are a waste.
