He was also completely harmless until one of his videos got a bunch of views on YouTube and he became arrogant and started thinking he was a big deal. Maybe in their eyes? I dunno, I can see Jericho being savvy enough to say to Vince that he can face Taker instead because Rusev shouldn't be beaten like this.

But honestly, I cannot understand at all Rusev not being pushed as a top baby face at this point. I just can't. He gets cheered third largest on Smackdown, and probably more than almost everyone on RAW. It just feels like another situation where someone is getting punished for getting over without Vince's consent, which is absolute madness to me.

I also disagree with comparing Rusev Day to Santino. Santino's entire existence was basically comedy. He regularly acted dumb, did slapstick, etc.

Rusev doesn't really do anything funny other than say "Rusev Day" a lot. The rest of him is serious.

Rusev is funny, but he's not a joke character like Santino. He has Aiden English as his buddy and hype man. It's a really strong and entertaining act that gets mileage simply by having Rusev be Rusev.

But I was dead serious when I said he was almost as over if not more over than AJ Styles at the Smackdown tapings I was at in Pittsburgh of all places. And it's very clear that Rusev is not thrilled with not being turned face by now, even at that show.

Rusev can easily develop out of being a comedy act just by winning more.

It's just a goofy catchphrase he hasn't really lost credibility aside from in a meta sense that we've all accepted he isn't going to be pushed. You look at his offense and look and there's no reason he can't beat higher up guys though.

With the way he's been booked recently, it's easy to forget that Rusev once entered WrestleMania on a tank.

It's also hard to believe his only WrestleMania win came when he was a member of the League of Nations.

Yeah to me evolving the gimmick is kinda more important than actually pushing Rusev at the moment, as I think eventually just shouting RUSEV DAYYY is gonna lose its charm-- and its projected lifespan is lower than the time it's going to take to when I expect him to be pushed-- and people won't actually care if he gets pushed when if it ever happens.

If the gimmick had more legs then I'd have more confidence that an eventual push if he ever got one would work but I actually don't think being in the US Title hunt is necessarily a bad place for him at the moment.

I think that saying Rusev Day has no legs is grossly disregarding how good Aiden English is. He makes Rusev Day a god damn spectacle. And beyond that, what else does the gimmick need to be aside from Rusev and Aiden riffing on people? Give him once chance to have a feud where he can actually be serious and you'll get a bit of depth to it anyway. Like if someone attacks Aiden and beats him up badly, Rusev can lose his shit on someone for attacking his buddy.

I think it was definitely intended as that originally, but lately it definitely feels like he's doing it in a face-like manner, and can definitely stay over that way

It'd be absolutely perfect for having Aiden come out when a heel is talking, throw down a few quick cracks in that verse style thing he does now, and then Rusev Day
