The board was originally for discussing the poll of the day or creating your own polls; anything else was considered off-topic and was deleted. However, a user - whose name has long since slipped from my memory - used a creative loophole to get around this. He would make polls on random subjects, while always including an option for "Other" (which he always listed as the "G." option, which led to the birth of the now largely-forgotten "G. Other" meme). People could select that option and use it to segue into a discussion about whatever. Eventually, the topicality rules were loosened overall and completely dropped for PotD, since they were largely only present as a thin veneer anyways, and that was that. --- Kill 1 man: You are a murderer. There's the occasional controversial one that can inspire discussion among both regulars and people who are drawn from outside to express their opinions (which is actually how I ended up here in the first place), but that's not really the norm.
