Joe Mauer just got his 2000th career hit. I don't really know how big of a milestone that is but it's probably pretty decent

It is good. 3000 is where you auto reach the HoF and obviously he won't get there and he is unlikely to make the Hall anyway but it's not totally inconceivable. Catchers sometimes get a boost to their candidacy and sometimes they're totally passed over for no reason so it's hard to say. The MVP will help. He definitely had Hall of Fame talent but he has just thrown away too many years due to health or just playing like shit. Seems like a cool guy though and his 2009 was truly amazing

I don't think many twinkles fans are talking about HoF for mighty Joe, but he'll be a twins legend forever. Looking back, his contract wasn't even that bad (the twins are notorious for never actually paying players and the mauer contract was apparently a huge deal), but he had a few slump years when fans had massive expectations for him, after his monster seasons. The last few years he's been quietly pretty darn good again

I find the various subreddits for streams of each sport tend to be the best. Since people can up and down vote, it's helpful in finding ones that work and are trustworthy.

Turning your Adblocker off is like exactly what you do not want to do with these sites. If they make you do that, then fuck em, not worth it even if it works. You gotta use protection at all times

Good post on Mauer and the Hall of Fame.

https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/joe-mauer-and-the-rule-of-2000/

1. I didn't know this but it's effectively impossible to get into the Hall without at least 2000 hits now. Silly but true apparently.

2. If you don't want to read the whole post, here's the gist for Mauer's chances specifically:

As for Mauer, his offensive decline since his concussion-necessitated move from catcher to first base after the 2013 season somewhat obscures the merits of his case, but what he did before moving makes for a strong resum: six All-Star appearances, three Gold Gloves, three batting titles (the only catcher who can make that claim), 11 other top-five finishes in a slash stat, and an MVP award. The year he won that award, 2009, his .365/.444/.587 line made him the first (and to date only) catcher to win the Slash Stat Triple Crown: his batting average and on-base percentage from that season are the highest of any catcher since World War II.

Even with just 920 games behind the plate, Mauers 39.0 peak WAR is 4.5 wins above the standard for catchers (the average for all Hall of Famers at the position; players are classified by where they accrued the most value) and ranks fifth among backstops behind Gary Carter, Johnny Bench, Mike Piazza, and Ivan Rodriguez, all enshrined. (Yes, Mauers seven best seasons are all from his catching days.) His 54.5 career WAR ranks eighth among catchers and is a full win above the standard. His 46.7 JAWS ranks seventh, the highest of any catcher outside the Hall.

I was reading about older blockbuster NFL trades and it's crazy how much things have changed. Trades like this would never happen nowadays. Here are 2 absolutely crazy ones

Ricky Williams trade
Saints traded their entire fucking draft, and a first and a third the following year to move up to pick 5 to get Ricky Williams.

And the Raiders traded Jon Gruden (their head coach at the time) to Tampa for 2 firsts and 2 2nds. Then the very next year, Gruden beat the Raiders in the super bowl.

And of course, the Vikings made the worst trade in history with the Herschel Walker trade

there have been so many people on twitter/where ever else complaining that they didn't put a retractable roof on target field.

since the place was built, this is apparently the first time there have been back to back postponed games (rain or snow), so that seems like a dumb argument.

This is also a freak snowstorm...biggest snowfall in years, and it happens to be in mid april. It's been snowing since friday night and it's higher than my knees now

I remember reading when Target Field was about to open that if they had elected for a retractable roof it would have been like another $100 million, and of course it was taxpayer funded so I say open air is the right call.

They're basically having a blizzard in western Missouri right now so I bet it comes our way soon which will be super fun.

Yeah I'm sure there were tons of people complaining about using taxpayer money for a stadium and would have complained even more with the extra 100 mil. I'm not saying being against public funding for stadiums is stupid (because it's not), but I won't get into that right now.

Anyway, some people were purposefully buying tickets for this weekends twins games for dirt cheap, knowing it would get delayed and they'd be able to transfer the tickets to a different game later on with nice summer weather. Seems smart

I think it was a requirement that the SkyDome had a retractable roof, so we could actually get home games in March and April. And considering no other city had one at the time, it was verrrrry expensive.
