(PA)

So it wasnt so bad, learning the ropes, etc.

One of the things I'll need to do is deny customers a sale for a variety of reasons. need to see ID and they dont have one, appear intoxicated(using multiple visual cues, not just one), etc etc.

Im there about an hour, and I get taken off the register to stock shelves. So I see a guy walk in I knew as a customer from my previous job.

This guy is nuts and is likely addicted to drugs or alcohol, but I never knew what it was really. I cant really explain what all it is with him but if you waited on him like I have youd know.

So he asks me a question about a bottle he sees "apple pie moonshine" probably not real moonshine as its 35%, but I did have it once so i could tell him it tastes just like apple pie, no alcohol. So he says he will buy it and is on his merry way.

a few hours later he comes in and buys two airplane bottles of crown royal. He said to me he finished the first bottle already.

I didnt do this but thats a perfectly valid reason(under policy) to deny a sale. He wasnt visually intoxicated, but he did mention he finished an entire bottle of 35% alcohol already. I could have denied a sale if I wanted.

I think denying sales for things like this can be tricky, but when my word comes down its final. If I said no, he could ask to see a manager, and they would back me up since I heard him say he drank already.

i kinda felt like sharing this story idk

35% is kinda low for a fruit liqueur, it should be 40%

I mean, I dont really know what a few hours is to you but if he wasnt visibly intoxicated it would be odd to deny a sale just because he knocked back a bottle in a few hours.

Well, i didnt want to be an ass and deny the sale, and yes he did not look visibly intoxicated.

Just felt like sharing that him saying he drank the bottle he bought earlier is absolutely a correct(under policy) reason to deny a sale. I will likely in the future keep going with the not be a dick route and only deny under extreme circumstances.

Which is how more alcohol should be regulated, tbh.

I got pulled one night while driving and the cop immediately asked to test my BAC, I responded by asking him if I could recite the alphabet backwards or walk a line. He said "We don't do those tests because some people have experience."

My friend, who was very apparently of-age, got denied by a girl, who was clearly still in high school (not of age but can sell) working at a liquor store, because my friend forgot her ID. I told the girl I would buy it for my friend and she told me she wouldn't let me do that. Infuriating. Like this child could spot a fake ID or she doesn't have one herself.

I almost couldn't but alcohol on my 21st birthday because my best friend was with me. But she was only there because she was going to be my 21st birthday. Worse case scenario, I wouldn't move just gone to another store. Did you just go to another store and buy it for her?

Does PA allow you to buy alcohol the day before your birthday? Because VA's stores are government run and I stood there and watched an employee say that they were allowed to sell booze to you the day before your birthday.

Around here, if two people are at the cash, and the one that is initially paying can't provide ID when asked, the second person is not allowed what-so-ever to buy the bottle and they both have to leave. Even if the second person is very obviously an old fart.

Does anyone in here like monopolies?
I think it's safe to assume almost everyone will say they do not.
We even have our government break them up.

So I ask this, and I ask you to think about this from a perspective of principle: is it okay for government to have a monopoly on liquor, like they do in several states?

If you answered no to the first question, but yes to the second, you need to check your principle.

Government run alcohol stores are always the least expensive. This is based on PA, NH and DE.

According to that article only two of those states have ABC stores.

It was in a small town called Penticton, BC, which has turned into a giant dump in the last five years.

Yeah that's pretty bad. I had already gone through and on another til. It's just frustrating being denied alcohol from a minor.

I dont know what the exact cutoff is but the standard at least in my state is if you look younger than 35 or so you gotta get carded. So its not that simple.
