Smash 4 is very polished, but its lacking horribly in singleplayer content. Where the Break the Targets? Wheres the adventure mode? Heck, wheres the Metal Battles with the badass music? Not that boring crap they had. To me, Smash 4 was a huge downgrade in the single player department

64 is interesting competitively because the large hitstun in the game creates opportunities for quick 0-deaths.

Melee is just ridiculously deep in terms of the tech and the mechanics of the game, which is why people love the shit out of it.

Brawl buildup was hype as fuck but was the biggest blue balls over a game I've ever experienced.

Sm4sh is like, better than Brawl but honestly feels really shallow in terms of mechanics compared to 64 and Melee. Also no ledge hogging is such a stupid fucking idea.

I don't own it but I've played it a handful of times. I know there are strats around it like trumping and 2 frame, but I always thought of ledge hogging as kind of a staple mechanic of the series. It feels way too easy to recover if you know you can always get ledge.

I'll also be completely honest and say I love the shit out of Melee, so there's probably some bias in what I think.

Definitely biased. I was the same way with Brawl. Didn't even want to give it a chance. Instead I was one of those Project M enthusiasts. It wasn't until years later when I realized despite Brawls obvious step backs, there was still skill needed to be good at the game. I'm real good at Melee, but get bodied at Brawl. Since I considered myself a huge Smash fan, I was ashamed.

In comparison to SSB4, where Brawl tool steps back in gameplay, SSB4 has evolved mechanics that work towards more balanced and competitive matches.

How can anyone say this?

It's floaty, and has very little hitstun and combo potential, and you can just use Metaknight to literally never lose a single fight.

It's boring to both play and watch.

Anyone who says this can't git gud enough to play a real smash game

Fighting games in general are boring af. Same shit different stage. So Smash is no different than any other fighting franchise. But once a while things get changed up and Brawl and Soul Calibur 2 are about the few I found that offer something other than "arcade" mode. Brawl's story mode was like playing a beat em up with Smash characters. SC2 offer to hone skills and test your brain rather than just one mindless fight after another than usually be accomplished with button mashing.

It might also be that I don't take this shit that seriously, and want enjoy it. Not get an aneurysm because someone's character's hit box isn't to my liking.

Tripping was bad though.

Across like 5 generations of gaming I probably own 12 fighting games on different consoles and have played more. Arcades were still big in the 80's and 90's and I frequented them a lot. I 100% understand fighting games. That understanding is the exact reason why I don't play a lot of fighting games.
