Do you think this pasty kid deserves prison whether his picture was a joke or not?

18 y/o Pasty Kid, Jacob Michael Graham from Detroit is facing 20 YEARS in Prison after he threatened to shoot up his school!!

The ugly hair teen is behind bars after he posted a pic of himself with his AR-15 Rifle on Snapchat and said "Next School Shooter"...police saw the picture and promptly arrested him when he was pulled out of class at Chippewa Valley High School.

A parent saw the post and immediately notified school officials, who then called police.

He claimed the instagram post was a "joke"

Police went to his parent's house and rummaged through his belongings and computer as his mother was very cooperative but obviously upset

No guns were discovered nor does the family own any firearms as the AR-15 he posted with was a rental...and there was no evidence he planned an attack either

He is charged with one count of a false report or threat of terrorism which punishable up to 20 years in prison. He is also charged with misuse of a telcommunications device, a misdemeanor

He is held on 150,000 cash or surety bond as a preliminary exam is to determine if he will stand trial on March 26th

A Female Heifer was also discovered to have posted a threatening post with an AR-15 according to California police and it's not known if the girl was arrested since the picture went wide.

Dailymail uncovered THIRTY EIGHT different incidents or threats since the shooting in Florida

Do you think this kid should go to Prison whether it was a joke or not?.

People have died because of "swatting" now and school shootings are even worse. I think any credible death threats should be met with the same sentence as the crime itself. People need to fear the consequences of their actions, that's how a deterrent works. If you claim you're going to shoot up a school, you have very poor judgment at the very least and may as well be removed. The crazy people will stay the course, but the more grounded ones will probably not proceed.

He kind of has a point though. This kid clearly doesn't understand the concept of crossing lines he shouldn't cross, or that actions he might perceive as small having huge consequences. That's what happens when you live on and learn from the internet and/or social media. You have this false sense of security that you're untouchable because you're hiding behind a screen. You don't have the foresight to acknowledge that things you do and say will have negative consequences.

That being said, while I think he should serve some time, 20 years is a little excessive. He is actually a person who might benefit from some therapy.

Not even. These people don't even have a concept of being behind the screen, they think things said on the internet are appropriate to say in real life. They also have no sense of when things are said by an invisible, aliased being and when they're said by a real person with a known face, name and life.

Too many people have grown up socialising with real people on the internet without learning what we all learnt in the earlier days: You don't mix internet life with real life unless you want to be chopped up, and you don't treat internet communications the same way as real ones.

not sure how you made that jump because never implied that it's the "solely the internets fault". someone pointed out that bad parenting was at fault and I added on to that.

Fail. He blames the parents, not the Internet. Drills are useful, but we don't blame drills if a child gets a drill and perforates its hand, we blame the parents.

Good plan, but why stop there? Anyone that says they want to kill someone should immediately be charged and locked up, pending a trial for potential future events-but then I guess they'd have good grounds for appeal if they lost since the supposed crime could no longer have taken place as they were locked up at the time...never mind, they clearly need to be punished. Either way, I fully expect you to set an example and turn yourself in immediately for any crimes you may have ever considered committing...

Or how about we stick with punishing when there's been an actual crime committed and get help for the ones that might commit a crime because prevention is always better than cure?

This. If you swapped out "school shooting" for "theft of a car", the response would be nowhere near as extreme so everyone needs to take a breath and think before you make a call like that.
If the currently extra easy access to guns is removed and he gets the help he clearly needs, this kid will be just fine.

While he should definitely face some serious consequences for his actions, a 20 year sentence is ridiculous. I'm not sure that *any* actual mass shooter has photographed himself and announced plans in advance, although I recall that one Reddit user (or something) asked people if he should shoot up his school and did it on their advice (I think it was Reddit, but it could have been another cesspool)
