Giving a shit about how someone styles their hair is stupid.

Also who gives a shit if someone turns a profit? It's music/image... not blood diamonds.

You mean to tell me that if someone blatantly plagiarized your work and stripped away all soul and meaning behind it for profit, while you were left with nothing, that you wouldn't be upset?

Computers are a TOOL. Cars are a TOOL. Cornrows are an ethnic hairstyle that people with coarse hair (i.e., blacks) use to manage their hair. Same thing with white dudes that go around wearing durags without understanding why black men wear it. They just wear it because it "looks" cool.

so fuckin kanye appropriated my peoples skinny jeans? the audacity

1. Joyner Lucas does rap about that
2. I do listen to rappers that are much better song writers than Lucas. Mos Def, Black Thought, MF Doom, Run the Jewels and etc.
3. Joyner Lucas is corny because he was dissing logic to get some recognition. Plus he judges other people like his life is perfect. He is a more talented Hopsin. Expand your taste.

Your work? You came up with this stuff? Sharing a complexion with those who did doesn't mean it's yours to say who can or can't do it too.

Do you want a check from every non-black person who does their hair like that? Should you be compensated daily or weekly or what?

When I'm talking about "your work" I'm referring to people that actually contribute to the genre.

I thought that was obvious.

What is an example of 'appropriate' culture borrowing that you think is 'respectable?'

I think that, while Macklemore is trying too hard to kiss up to black folks, I think he's being fairly respectful with his music.

Eminem is another one. He'll actively put black artists he likes and respects on his music so they can eat too, though he did have that incident where he was talking shit about black women way back in the days. Eminem even openly acknowledges that he wouldn't be as popular if he was a black man

The biggest standout to me is Taylor Swift. Nothing about her rap songs feels genuine and it honestly sounds like she's just playing off of the rap stereotypes that her primary fanbase seems to think most rap music consists of, mostly for a laugh.

Eminem fans are guilty of this too. They were the same people condemning gangsta rap because they "couldn't relate to it" and "it's nothing but selling drugs and fucking bitches" but turn around and think Eminem is a lyrical mastermind when he talks about fucking his mom and ODing on vicodin.

I mean, that's pretty justifiable too when you were picked on, bullied and ridiculed for liking that shit.

But yeah that does sound like a pretty mundane thing to be mad about. Now put that into the context of black people and black culture and you'll see where the problem is.

i just don't get the "you can't diss someone more mainstream than you as that's corny" logic. So in every beef that two rappers have, the less mainstream rapper is being corny? It's just really weird logic. You would think being "corny" would have more to do with music, not "he dissed this more popular guy."

The problem is that there's no genuine appreciation for it. Rap music, even trap music, was birthed from the black community and relates to the black struggle (mostly, not always; again, Eminem).

Then one of these aforementioned "culture vultures" comes along and sees they can profit from it, strips away its soul and sells it to a bunch of people that don't fuck with the black community or black music, but they'll buy it simply because there's a white face attached to it this time.

Taylor Swift can legally do whatever the fuck she wants, I'm simply explaining why she and her fans get labeled as culture vultures and why many black people don't respect her.

In actuality, the problem is that society still tends to think less of something when a black face is attached to it or at the very least, will actively discard something as being "too black" for them to enjoy.

Shrug those people off. Racist people can't be changed if they ENJOY their views. I say the same thing when someone says that the actions of one is a reflection of their whole race. Only a racist sees it that way and it's pointless to debate them.

I make fun of everything regardless of whether or not I like it. This seems sort of comparable to when people would say I was "ruining" a song. As if my parody somehow erased the original from existence.
