Action rpg or straight?

Action rpg I've got to go with KH 1. Perfect ending.

For regular I'm gonna go with FF9. That one has a special place for me and brings out the feels.

FF7 and 9 are great. Gonna say Breath of Fire V as well, even though the game itself wasn't great. Xenogears for sure.

KH1? The one where Sora and Kairi could have stayed together if she just jumped? Also, it was the first of many RPGs ending with an obvious "say, there's going to be a sequel" ending.

KH1 is pretty good as simply an "and the adventure continues" type ending

personally I have trouble thinking of one, but I do recall being very satisfied by the Record Breaker ending of the Triangulum Arc in Devil Survivor 2, just a great climatic fight with how it intertwines gameplay mechanics and story and a tastefully done example of a "perfect" ending afterwards

bitter sweet ending for vanilla which then turns incredibly satisfactory for blood and wine depending on your choices.

When my friends and I beat the game the literal ending was being told that we (the party, that is) was so famous for our deeds that our names would be put on soup cans.

I don't remember the name, but I'll never forget that ending.

FF6.

Amazing music/medley, everyone gets a little cutscene, solid resolution to the storyline, and no bullshit "AND THEN THE HERO DIED OR MAYBE NOT TO SAVE EVERYONE".

Okay, there was that snippet where it was shown that Terra might kick the bucket, but that was also resolved a few moments later.

My favorite RPG. But the ending wasn't why. Bonus points for letting you walk around and talk to people though.

Unless by "ending" you mean the part before you actually beat the final boss where all the characters wrap up their own interna struggle subplots at once, because that ruled.

yeah I agree

it is kind of hard to wrap up a 20+ hour adventure in a way that feels memorable compared to the adventure itself

Chrono Trigger is good but that's mainly because you can try so many different ones

Lunar 1 and 2 have excellent endings.

Suikoden games tend to have very satisfying endings. I especially liked 2 and 1.

common problem in games, i agree

that's what I liked about adventure's ending, too--the process of getting there was one gut punch after another

yet the ending still somehow managed to be even darker than the journey
