Epifruit: Nominees get a years worth of fruit deliveries.

Okay, shit like this pisses me off to no end, sorry. There are millions of people living in poverty, who barely have the money to make ends meet and buy the groceries they need, but actors get this for free. Give this to the people who actually fucking need it.

It's not like they stole 100k in stuff from poor peoples homes. Someone has to manufacturer it, someone has to store it, someone has to transport it.

But award shows are stupid in the regard that its just a huge circle jerk for the members of media.

I get this, I mean, it's not free to produce. But if you are giving away a years worth of fruit for free, why not give it to the needy?

By somebody who then chose to give them away for free. It's an act of charity toward people who have no need of charity, which is just wasteful.

Oscars is all about money. Studios spend millions on bribery campaigns to buy the award. It has to appear prestigious so they get a boost for their movies. The best way to do it is to pay lots of famous people to come to the event.

It's all ridiculous and an ostentatious display of wealth, but so is also the following:

Million/billion/trillion dollar mansions that have dozens of bedrooms and bathrooms, indoor Olympic-sized swimming pools, bowling alleys, movie theaters, museums, etc. All so they can house a family of four.

Decorating anything in precious metals like silver, gold, platinum or chrome.

Owning multiple aircraft and using said aircraft to fly from New York City to Boston for lunch with the missus.

Owning multiple ships and just using them to laze around in a harbor or offshore from your own island.

Owning multiple cars just to show off and brag to others that you have something that they don't or just because they look cool/pretty.

That reward would be the actual award. A millionaire is not going to be more likely to come be recognized for their accomplishments if they get a year of free bananas out of it. They can very comfortably afford their own bananas.

Cheaper to buy something from McDonalds than fruit.

Cheaper and usually quicker. In the time spent of parking, going inside a store to get fruit, buying, rinsing, and then eating, you could have already bought a meal at McDonalds and already be done eating by the same time you pay for the food at the store.

It's sort of why childhood obesity grew so fast. Lack of time that could be spent cooking healthy food that typically costs more than a meal at a fast-food restaurant. Parents rushing from one place to the next need something quick, easy, and cheap.

It's why I love meal-prep Sundays. Spend the day cooking and you're done. Just reheat the food at each meal and you're done.

Trying to blame childhood obesity on fast food is just lazy armchair sociology, especially since many obese children don't even eat fast food.

Not all the noms are super wealthy, you know. Especially those from the foreign or short animation categories. But really, I have no problem with those that acted and worked hard getting gifts on the night meant to recognize them. If the year of fruit seems silly, take issue with that particular prize, not the giving of gifts itself.

Which, again, is a "Prove god doesn't exist!" argument. It also contradicts other facts -- such as that fast food consumption is on the decline (Gallup, Stasta, etc) yet obesity is on the rise. In fact, more than 3/4s of the US population are predicted to be overweight or obese by 2020 (OECD) yet fewer than HALF of all Americans eat at fast food places even once a week (Gallup, 2013) and, of those who do eat the most fast food, it's the 18-29 adult group.
