also it may just be hard to plan out A B C and D, but it may be good to plan out A and B, have the overall plot of A to D, and have vague but malleable C and D.

I remember on the B&amp;B, you gave the hot (cold?) take that this season has lost all hope now that morgan was gone. Part of why I felt like it was very &quot;this season sucks factually and everyone has to agree with me&quot; in tone. Not exactly horror but I really highly recommend it! Cinematography and sound design were both top notch, as were the two main performances

Watched the "rape-and-revenge" film appropriately titled Revenge, easily one of the gems in it the admittedly garbage filled sub-genre. It balances the trashy exploitation of its roots with genuine craft and teeth-clinching grit.

It seems especially rampant with horror movies that they're never really as "scary" as ads or news stories may present, even if they do end up still being really good movies. It'll likely be the case here again I'm betting.

Looking at the trailers for Hereditary don't scream to me that this is a 98% Rotten Tomatoes movie that is a critical darling. So I'm thinking it has to be really god damn good.

Just from reading what random people have to say on the internet that aren't journalists or personalities, apparently Hereditary lives up to the hype. I am withholding spoiling myself so I'm not digging too far into it, but man. Sunday can't come soon enough.

Hereditary is not overhyped. It delivers completely. Easily one of the most deeply disturbing and shocking horror films in a long while in my book. It deserves the hype and praise. As much as I enjoyed and respect A Quiet Place and what it was able to do in the box office, Hereditary is the clearly better horror picture if you're looking for something that will actually make you think and keep you up at night.

If you like slow-burn style horror films that grow and grow with dread as they continue, this one should knock it out of the park for you.

Definitely. This looks a bit mundane and not exactly what I expected. The plot elements seem... "off" to me. The reversal of Michael and Laurie being related was something I had already heard about, but I don't agree with it nor the way this movie takes a shot at it. Nor do I like the fact that Michael was simply captured that night and has spent 40 years in an asylum. It's retreading. I kinda thought he had simply "vanished" for 40 years and that would have caused significant amounts of stress on Laurie's psyche.

It just didn't do much for me. I'll try to stay positive but really, I wasn't impressed and my expectations are pretty low now.

Hereditary was brutal and fucked in ways i did not expect. The ending is extremely bizarre (admittedly one of the hardest things to get right in a horror film), but overall it was really good. After that one really bad and fucked up thing happened I was in a state of shock and on edge for the rest of the film. Truly horrific.

Yeah it crushed it with the mounting dread, which builds initially, then still manages to build some more after we get a huge gut-punch. The writer/director really loves the creepy figure in the background bit.

I'm definitely a bit shaken by it.

We're planning on seeing it again tomorrow.

There are a lot of little things this film does. The shock of Charlie's death when most everyone probably felt she was marketed as the 'main character' you'd be seeing really catches you off guard. The foreshadowing of her death was apparent now, and I'm looking forward to watching it with a closer eye, especially in the beginning. And there'es nothing like some good old ominous dark figure in the shadows.

So i actually think Hereditary may be the most fucked up horror movie I've ever seen. Hard to tell with obvious recency bias still in effect, but anyway, i thought it'd be fun to try and make a Top 10 list of most fucked-up movies:

1. Hereditary
2. Martyrs
3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
4. Audition
5. The Exorcist
6. Antichrist
7. Requiem for a Dream
8. Reanimator
9. The Vanishing (1988)
10. Don't Breathe

some I've watched only parts of (Cannibal Holocaust), or read the synopsis and decided i probably don't really ever need to witness that (A Serbian Film). There's also a couple I've bailed on, either because they freaked me out immediately (Tetsuo: Iron Man), or I didn't think it was very good (Jacob's Ladder).

Feel free to suggest anything else that's balls-to-the-wall, intense, disturbing, disgusting, bizarre - stuff that's difficult to watch but that you'd still consider a good film.
