I've been up beyond 110 mph a few times. One time when I was 16 I was going 100 mph down the interstate for a good 20 minutes and a cop was behind me the whole time and I didn't know it until I pulled off at my exit. He didn't stop me but he rode my ass the entire time

Overall speed limit. As in most countries don't accept excess at any time. That's like saying 15 year olds aren't young because it's only a year under legal in most of the world.

I tend to average 70 mph/112 km/h but if in a rush I'll go up to 80 mph/128 km/h or a whee bit higher. After getting a $400 or 500 ticket for going 83 mph in a 65 mph zone, I kinda have to force myself to by mindful.

To be fair, even if he was being sarcastic, unless your line of work involves measurements, numbers, engineering, etc. most folks wouldn't bother to remember 1 mile is about 1.6 km or 0.6 mile is about 1 km.

In my case I learn that at a young age as a fan of Star Wars since an Imperial-Class Star Destroyer is 1,600 meters long and I was curious as to what that was in miles.

It's ingrained in Gran Turismo, as if you want to go in CDLR (Code de la Route) rooms in Europe or Japan, you need to be able to convert kmh to mph in the title.

Elementary school? Any legitimate high school science course would make use of it, and Muscles is in his early 20's. Anyone with even the most basic secondary science education should be able to recall 1.6 km/mi less than a decade out of school. Especially where metric distances come up quite often even outside of school.

Though really, the fundamental problem is the US' insistence on clinging to a backwards, useless measurement system. The school system can only teach what they know, after all.

It doesn't actually come up that much. At least to the point where you need to convert it. Unless you work in a field that needs to do that often. And most people probably don't. Also, it actually didn't get brought up much in school after elementary. And if it was ever needed for something for class(which it usually wasn't), they would give you a conversion chart....
