I hate underwater battling because the monsters are just so much faster than you'll ever be, and you have to use stuff like Lance or Gunlance for the best chance of victory. But my god I love that Ceadeus fight. So much atmosphere, the amazing music, the actual fun fight. It benefits from being much like a puzzle fight with a lot of whaling on the guy in between

Now that I've gotten to play it, SAO Fatal Bullet is actually super fun. I'm really enjoying it. I made my avatar character look like a character from a different anime series that also uses a gun. Bonus points to whoever can guess which character.

The customization lets you pick from dozens of hairstyles and eyes, as well as 10 different default voices. It also gives you a good around of options for changing the body sizes to get the "proportions" right. The problem I found is that there aren't that many colors to choose from, so the chances of the exact shade of color you need for your character's hair being in the game are fairly slim. For the character I made, her hair color is noticeably lighter than it was in her anime because the right color simply wasn't there.

I've never played Freedom Wars, so I have no idea.

Also, Kirito and the rest of the SAO cast are still in the game as NPC's in the story. One of the online multiplayer modes is a "hero battle" mode where you play as one of the SAO characters (with preset weapons/skills) instead of your avatar, which is good for new players who don't want to get stomped because they haven't leveled up their own avatars very much yet. Even characters like Asuna and Leafa, who we never see in GGO in the anime, are in the game with new designs to fit GGO.

So I was browsing the Xbox Store. They have a pretty big Anime Sale going on. Lots of good stuff in there. I'm impressed.

Also looked at that Fatal Bullet game, because I guess I hate myself. Most of the reviews were very positive, and I'm a little surprised. I'm having a little bit of doubt on my "Don't touch this game ever" stance. Am I being unfair due to hatred of the source material? Or is it actually a decent game worth giving a shot?

I'm very loud about how much I hate SAO, but even I'm interested in the games. It's the shit cringe characters and shit cringe plot that brings the series down, but the game worlds in the series are perfectly fine. And it sounds like the GGO game cuts the bad parts of the series out.

Looked into the game a bit more. Looks alright. But association with Sword Art Online still really hurts. So yeah. I'll keep an eye on a video rental store, maybe rent it for a few days and then get it the hell out of my Xbox.

Yep, same here. Even worse, a lot of the people who do like it say the first arc was the best, and I actually liked the GGO arc in the second season the most. SAO is so polarizing for some reason, and people either really like it or really hate it. I just consider it "above average", like a 7 or 7.5 out of 10.

Yes, Fatal Bullet definitely trims down on the things that people dislike about SAO.

Playing as an avatar character means less focus on gary stu protagonist Kirito (but he's still a secondary character in the storyline) and like I said, the gameplay is actually really fun. It's worth at least renting to give it a shot, and if you like it enough that you want to play it more after the few days you rented it, go for it.

The first season was awful. It just got worse and worse every episode. And the Alfheim Story Arc is not even exaggerating one of the worst things I've watched. Not even sure why I sat through the second season after the first one. The Gun Gale Story line is definitely the high point of the series. But even then, it wasn't that great.

Alfheim wasn't bad, it was the focus on the weird incest thing that came out of nowhere that made it bad.

The first like 3 episodes of SAO were pretty good because the premise was so good. But the story just falls super flat and was obviously very very vaguely planned with no vision as to how long the series was actually gonna go.

That's how it is for so many LNs though. Even stuff like Shieldbro originally had a garbo ending. Their practice for writing LN for whatever reason is to write a bunch of shit, throw a bundle of darts until one sticks. Stuff also gets popular off of premise alone all the time, and the rest is carried by some degree of pandering and absolute baseline writing that eventually leads up to an ending that is probably a few sentences by that point of story planning.

And ultimately it can be just such a product sometimes. You can tell just how big of a % of the direction is studio sanctioned or money grubbing centric. Objectively there's nothing wrong with it since they need the money, but it gets in the way of the story and results in assfucks like Kirito who clearly has a girlfriend but can't progress for a billion pages because he needs a harem. It speaks volumes when the author's favorite character is a guy (Klein) and arguably also his best written character aside from Asuna (at least first series Asuna), but like 95% of the main characters are girls and Kirito is the only male main character. To call him a self-insert is redundant by now, but he's a part of the premise that sold the show and kept it going. Can't trust kids to have a good fucking taste

Heh heh heh... the blade that literally drove me insane. I rolled her super early, and that was a curse in disguise.

Back then when you couldn't skip most of the voice lines... she was hell. Now I think she's not really as bad as I remembered, but it's largely because the updates made everything so much easier to do

IIRC the game has some sort of bad luck prevention thing where the longer you spend without rolling rare blades the more chances you get to roll rare blades.

Spending boosters to increase the chances of those 2 elements out of the rest also help a lot.

Finally, using rare and legendary cores increases the chances of rare blades.

But as you know, at the end of the day with gacha its all random.

And missed this, sorry. That second screen is attributes. you can buff them with items, but the higher you have in an attribute, it provides a buff increase in getting a core of that element.

Bravery - Fire/Water
Truth - Wind/Ice
Compassion - Electric/Earth
Justice - Dark/Light
