We're all approaching this situation wrong.

Instead of getting rid of guns, let's just get rid of all the people.

Then it won't matter how many guns there are.

Before or after closing down the gun shops? I liked that bit.

The person on twitter is clearly referring to people under 18. That's when a woman has to get parental permission for an abortion.

As for the "close gun stores like we do abortion clinics", Planned Parenthood gets money from the government. That's why the government is able to shut them down; by removing their funding. No gun store, as far as I know, gets government funding.

Basically, both her ideas comparing abortions to buying guns are nonsensical.

This works for me. Also a mandatory gun safety class, including proper care and storage, and the ability to prove that you have a secure, locking area for your firearm regardless if you have children or not. If you cannot secure the weapon whereas an intruder, or anyone in your home cannot access it, you aren't permitted to purchase the weapon.

Any issues with the law involving violence, or violent behavior, regardless if they firearm is involved or not, after purchase of the weapon requires you to turn it back in and a partial refund of your money spent if you can provide a bill of sale.

Former law enforcement and/or military can forego the gun safety class because it's part of their initial training, granted they still can pass a full mental evaluation and background check and they were discharged honorably with no discrepancies in their history.

It's a fair start that have terms that even the nuttiest of gun nuts wouldn't hate to the point of aggressively fighting against it.

Sounds about right to me. Healthy law-abiding citizens should have no problems with this whatsoever, and the people who would actually cause problems and commit crimes using guns aren't able to legally get them.

What about those with very low income forced to live in areas with a lot of crime? Is someone that would have passed all those hurdles not allowed to buy firearms just because they can't afford to go through all that, or take time from work? Can they be provided adequate means of storing the firearm if they can't afford to do so, and be paid for their attendance at those now mandatory courses, like we do with jury duty? How would company policies look at a worker taking time away because they wanted to buy a gun? Most importantly, where's that money going to come from, or are those too poor for all that just be shown the door?

Not to say your suggestions are bad, but how much time and money do you think all that stuff is going to cost someone? Do you really think whichever state they're in is going to cover the bill? Remember that the cheapest handguns can be had for around 100 dollars, and even that is asking a lot for some people.

A strawman? In a gun control topic?

How rare.

An analogy between abortion and firearm use is weird. For example, abortions total more than 600,000 cases per year in the US. What are the firearm ones? Around 30,000, and thats if you add in suicides?

Safety videos and the other requirements she mentioned are generally a good thing (not including the dumb ultrasound comment), but I dont think any potential mass shooters would give a shit about any of her recommendations.

You're absolutely right. Literally expecting the government to try and shut down gun stores using the same mechanism as with abortion clinics isn't realistic at all. That's a great takeaway from this juxtaposition.

That's why safety classes won't work. The only way this will work is mandatory mental health background checks in addition to criminal history checks.

The tweet is a screencap of a text posted on Instagram so I can't copy it. I'd copy it by hand if I were at work where I have two monitors. Sorry mate. But it's essentially "How about we make people who want to buy a gun jump through the same hoops as young women who want to have an abortion".
