http://www.starwars.com/news/game-of-thrones-creators-david-benioff-and-d-b-weiss-to-write-and-produce-a-new-series-of-star-wars-films
David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are going from Winterfell to a galaxy far, far away. It was announced today that Benioff and Weiss, creators of the smash-hit, Emmy Award-winning television series Game of Thrones, will write and produce a new series of Star Wars films. These new films will be separate from both the episodic Skywalker saga and the recently-announced trilogy being developed by Rian Johnson, writer-director of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. On the one hand, the idea of these 2 paired with SW is a tantalizing one. On the other hand.... Sweet Jesus Christ. For those keeping score at home, here's what we still have coming: - Episode IX - Solo - Likely a standalone for Boba Fett, and/or other standalones - A trilogy headed by Rian Johnson - And NOW a new "series" of films by Benioff and Weiss. It was obvious Disney was going to whore out SW as much as possible as soon as they got their hands on it, but this is absurd. There won't be an ounce of magic left to these movies with them being scattershot across so many creators. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. ... Copied to Clipboard!

why are people surprised by this? yes it's alot of movies. but they have to plot their course. and they made it very clear when they bought star wars they were going to do exactly this. everyone I see acting shocked by this, just to me seems like a person who wasn't paying attention when disney bought star wars. they said they were doing this, and now they are following through. if you make a movie every year, you have to plan far ahead because it takes multiple years to make a single movie.

Well, as you can see, not only am I not shocked, but I predicted this would happen. Still doesn't make it anymore detestable.
It'd be more forgiving if there was a clear plan or connection with all the movies, like if they went full MCU and kept the tone and plots connected, but that doesn't appear the case. There will be no more identity to what Star Wars even is. It's just a brand brand name, with no meaning actually behind it. --- PotD's resident Film Expert. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I mean we are at a point where three Marvel movies release per year. It's only a matter of time until Star Wars gets to that point too... ... Copied to Clipboard!

Don't worry, they'll be making these films with no clear plan for the franchise or interaction with any of the other directors simultaneously working on Star Wars.

I've been feeling the exhaustion with the Marvel movies. Now I think I'm going to be getting with the Star Wars movies too.

I imagine that they'll be far more capable than the halfwits involved in TFA and TLJ.

That and what they've done with Marvel so far. Disney is really gunning to milk these franchises for as long as they can. CyborgSage00x0 posted...
The new batch should have cohesion. In general, I've been nonplussed by the MCU's running narratives. Smarkil posted... I've been feeling the exhaustion with the Marvel movies. I look forward to more Star Wars, just like I look forward to more Marvel (... and parts of more DC, though I'm less sure about that now).
