only ask because all my life it's been the one everyone's been on my ass about and how without a perfect signature you won't get a job anywhere outside flipping burgers

but no matter what I can't seem to do much with it and it's a bunch of chicken scratch....annoys me because this is the one thing that's ultimately held me back

you always need to write something important and if anyone can easily copy the signature you have then you are in for a world full of hurt

I have bad handwriting and teachers and my mom have given me shit about it.

Until I step out in the real world and realize its not that bad at all and better than the half assed cursive a lot of adults use.

just one more thing i was told as a kid that never turned out to be true.

yeah my mom always gets on my ass about it and never lets up....like every so often she's gotta ask "hows your handwriting coming along? you realize nobody will want to acknowledge you If it's not good enough"

In the real world 80% of the time no cares about your hand writing. Your grammar and spelling is much more important in my opinion. The majority of inter-office communication these days is done via electronic means anyway so don't sweat it.

Strong penmanship will definitely help you leave a mark, but I don't know about the whole "not being acknowledged" thing. Especially with so much communication being digital. I would say as long as you have decent spelling and grammer you're good.

Wtf....I've never seen anyone harp on handwriting like that. Unless they're either reading doctor's orders or they are a teacher. I know adults who write like 3rd graders and they do just fine. As long as people can read it. Main thing is you gotta slow down. I have to anyways. I had a really particular teacher in high school that marked off points for it. So that fixed mine up pretty well. I know how to write well but I have to slow it down to do so.
And a perfect signature means so little..unless you are an artist because it's how people find you. It's more about uniqueness than legibility anyways.

yeah that's the main thing she tries to preach...making my signature stand out so it isn't just a bunch of chicken scratch that anyone can write

but since I've always been typing on computers since I was a child it's hard for me to write any other way

writing with a pen/pencil is just like a foreign world to me....everything's so slow at that point I feel the pressure to do well

It's probably his mom, in which case I feel kind of bad for him. She sounds like the kind of parent who is disappointed in their child but gives them ridiculously inaccurate advice

That might have been true in the 60's when everything was hand written, but nowadays no one writes anything. I haven't written anything but my signature in like the last 8 years, but I type a shit ton of stuff.

My handwriting is terrible, especially since I write fast. That's why I organize and type my class notes. As a child, my parents and teachers got after me for messy handwriting, too.

Seriously, I thought it was a pretty common stereotype that doctors and lawyers have nearly unintelligible handwriting/signatures.

My dad's signature is literally just a squiggly line and my teachers always used to ask me if he was a doctor.

I have signed with a squiggle before, but usually not. There is one person who can copy my handwriting, but I allow it. Anyway, I wouldn't say handwriting is super important. Legibility is. Grammar and spelling are usually good skills to have, too.

I have seen some pretty bad handwriting in my life, though. But, where others failed at deciphering it, I was somehow able to. I guess they were my friends, so...
