I just thought of another reason I dont really care about Goku. He lacks that something that makes you want to root for him and see him succeed because his only goal is to fight. A lot of other shounen leads give you reasons to want to see them do well (Deku for example) while Goku has nothing.

I hope Jiren wins and then says he wishes back all the strong fighters but doesn't wish back Goku just to throw more shade

And then sees Gohan and is like "Oh, my mistake" and wishes him back away, too

Frieza leaves Pan in the woods to die. But Pan is strong enough to survive on her own and make it back home. Gohan, remembering his training with Piccolo, thinks Frieza did this on purpose to help her and thanks him for this kind gesture.
