After all these years I still think PS2 is overrated. Maybe because it just didnt have exclusives that appealed to me, but I had more than enough to keep me busy with Xbox and GameCube.

I always hated the controller too lol. And I know a popular thing about it was its a cheap DVD player but... it was shitty. And Ive seen lots of people completely wear out their disc drive using it as a DVD player lol. Maybe Im not casual enough for it to really appeal to me

PlayStation 2 had the best game library in the 6th generation (while it had medium specs compared to GameCube or Xbox). As for Xbox, while it had the best hardware at the time (for console gaming), most Xbox games were multiplatform titles and even most of its "exclusives" had a PC port.

What's most important for me is the game library (and I am still a Nintendo fan to this day).

Back in Generation 6, I pretty much loved all Gen 6 consoles equally (but I never had a Dreamcast at the time but now I do but I haven't really bought games for it yet).

PS2, although I wish it had a native hard drive like the XBox (and no, the one you bought separate doesn't help because only one game supported it). But I buy a console for the games and PS2 had the games.

Everything worthwhile on the original Xbox has a PC port.

PS2, although I wish it had a native hard drive like the XBox (and no, the one you bought separate doesn't help because only one game supported it)

NA games supporting the harddrive:
ESPN NFL 2K5, NBA 2K5, ESPN College Hoops 2K5, ESPN MLB 2K5, and ESPN NHL 2K5 use the HDD to improve replays. (If the HDD is not installed, static screenshots are shown as replays. With the HDD, full cutscene-like replays can be displayed). ESPN NHL 2K5 has the ability to save files directly to the hard drive
Final Fantasy XI is the only North American game truly dependent on the HDD as it requires various patches and upgrades from Square Enix.
Metal Saga installs 1.7 GB to the HDD to decrease load time and uses the HDD to save/load game instead of Memory Card
MLB 2K6, 2K7, 2K8, 2K9, 2K10, 2K11 and 2K12 support saving to the HDD as well as the automatic installation of data for faster loading.
NBA 2K6, 2K7, 2K8, 2K9, 2K10, 2K11 and 2K12 support saving to the HDD as well as the automatic installation of data for faster loading.
NHL 2K6, 2K7, 2K8, 2K9 and 2K10 support saving to the HDD.
RPG Maker 3 installs 3 GB to the HDD to decrease load times.
Resident Evil Outbreak (both, the original game and File #2) installs 1 GB to the HDD for reduced loading times.
SOCOM 3: U.S. Navy SEALs supports additional maps, downloadable via the in game "Socom Store".
SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs supports additional maps, however the files must be copied from a magazine demo disc to the hard drive and cannot be downloaded.
SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Combined Assault supports additional maps.
Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, like its Japanese counterpart, can install 2 GB to the HDD to reduce loading time.
The Urbz: Sims in the City recognizes when the HDD is installed and allows data to be saved directly to it. Also uses a 512 MB "__tmp" Partition to cache Game Files to speed up load times.
The Sims 2 recognizes when the HDD is installed and allows data to be saved directly to it. Also uses a 512 MB "__tmp" Partition to cache Game Files to speed up load times.

Japan had over 100 games supporting the harddrive. Like Kingdom Hearts and Final Mix.

How is this even a question?

PS2 is one of the best consoles ever released (tough choice between it, SNES, and PS1) and the original Xbox one of the worst. If original Xbox looks good today, it's only because of how bad the Xbone is and lower standards.

Hell, whenever someone claims a console is better than another b/c it's more powerful, PS2 compared to Xbox is the first example used to prove how wrong it is to equate power with being better.
(though it's hard to think of a gen where the most powerful console was the best one and/or the best selling; PS4 could've broken the cycle this gen but then Xbox One X came out, most powerful but still underselling the competitor)

Xbox was the start of consoles getting games that first came out or were designed for pc and then transfered over to consoles but ofc they get wattered down and people who dont have pc think their console is only place to play the game.

Xbox helped kill onsole exclusivity by making game devs reluctant to develop a game specifically for console.

What ps2 games were originaly pc?

Now what xbox games had pc releases for all of its excclusive games?

Also xbox is why consile users pay to play online. Microsoft comercialized the industry in the worst way possible and halo is almost entirely to blame (and was better on pc)

All of Xbox's decent games came out on the PC a few months/years later (often improved in the process), so there was literally no reason to buy the console if you had a decent PC and a bit of patience.

PS2, on the other hand, had one of the greatest gaming library's of all time. I consider it the second-greatest console ever, behind only the SNES.

I will say, though, Xbox aside the sixth console generation was fantastic. PS2 was incredible, Gamecube was almost as good, and the Dreamcast - short-lived though it was - had some absolute gems.

Not good enough to turn videogame consoles from purpose built machines to region+brand locked multimedia pc software emulators.

Had miscrosoft not been successful (proto-chads not buying into halo) with their console we wouldnt have always online gaming or subscription fees to play games online, or yet another party fighting to keep games on specific platforms to boost sales.

To this day xbox has no exclusive games.

Xbox is for poor/slow people who want to play the most popular pc games and cant without a game console.

What does JSRF being a good game that didnt get a PC port have to do with multimedialocked PCs?

We had Always Online gaming long before the Xbox. Remember EverQuest, the MMORPG developed by Sony?
Released 2 years before the Xbox.
Which inspired Final Fantasy XI. Yes, it was released half a year after the Xbox, but it had been in development for over 2.5 years by then.
Subscription fees...
If you wanted to play PC games online against more than one opponent back in the days, you had to subscribe to services like TEN. Their Duke Nukem 3D Tournament is legendary, still doesnt change that it cost money until Blizzard released their Battle.net for free.
Wait, you mean for consoles... like Phantasy Star Onlines subscription fee?
Microsoft didnt invent it.
...party fighting? What does Microsoft have to do with Smash Bros?
Jet Set Radio Future is no exclusive? Midtown Madness 3? What other hardware can I play it on?
Thats a pretty stupid opinion.

Nintendo has been free forever and is still technically free.

Plenty of free online pc games back in the day.

You were paying server fees to squeenix, not fees to sony to even access online features.

You were paying for maps as in the past dlc was made AFTER a games release and you were paying for the NEW content being added, not paying sony for the bandwith used by your ethernet adapter.

Battlefront 2 happened because people disnt speak up sooner.

Loot crates shouldnt exist at all!

It was driven by the mobile markets and seeped its way into console market which is filled with casuals who didnt realize they needed to complain BEFORE it reached the very top.

Just like paying internet fees to play a single player game.

How are old maps from earlier games new content made after the game was released?
No, I like to point out when people whine about stuff.
Sonys online was paid by the developers paying a fee based on how much data that got downloaded, which is why we saw a downside in released demos.
PC gamers had no problems in paying for TEN.
