Because older TVs were analog, while newer ones are digital. Analog relies on the laws of physics while digital ones are subject to the limits of the TV's hardware which is kept fairly low since a long startup time is hardly a priority for something that will be on for several hours.

uh

okay, so, good job bumping a 5 day old topic for some reason

and i'm talking that newer and newer tvs take forever to turn on, when, say, the onset of LCD tv's, they turned on near instantly like computer monitors do.

I'd answer that in detail but since you're going to be a dick about getting a response I'll not bother.

Older TVs were old pieces of garbage that had to warm up.

LCD TVs were electronic and turned on instantly with a basic circuit and minimal OS/overlay.

Smart TVs are complete (weak) computers that need to boot up an entire operating system with the mobile hardware they're given before they can show a picture. Unplugging and replugging causes a full reboot while turning them off puts them into sleep mode.

they would have to fire 20 at once to have even the slightest chance at having a nuke hit us. we have plenty of anti missle defenses

They don't really have that right, though. If they tried, they would face severe consequences from most of the world. Comcast, on the other hand, only has to fear people switching to a different ISP, which isn't that scary when there are like two other options at best and they're probably also throttling those sites.

Shooting a nuke out of the air has devastating consequences though. Some experts even say that it could be just as, maybe even more damaging to shoot it out of the air.

better to shoot it down before it gets here than to let it hit.

North Korea has never used a nuke offensively. Both Comcast and Verizon on the other hand have throttled service to streaming websites.
