Just watched the first one. I wasn't particularly impressed but it was entertaining. Cool theme though. Wondering if the next two improve on it.

yeah, I thought Anarchy was better anyways, the first is home invasion thriller, second is trying to survive the night trapped outside, cooler to me anyways.

The first one is without a doubt one of the worst films I have ever seen.

The concept doesnt even make sense. Why would a night no laws make people docile? If anything it would make everyone far more violent. And the film only focuses on violent crimes but there would also be rapists and pedos running around trying to take adantage of it too.

This too, I always hated the concept because everyone seems to go either into hiding or into murder mode with no inbetween. Maybe a seven year old wants to sell lemonade without a license, or someone in Utah wants to have sex in an ambulance while it's making an emergency call?

The purge is a good concept with terrible execution. There is no explained reason why crime is almost 0 because people go on a murder spree once a day a year, and that fact that it does work means the society in which the purge takes place consists of mostly psychopaths with a need to mass murder innocents anyway. The movie plays it off as a conspiracy by the rich, but as I said earlier, the fact that the purge works at all means there was already something deeply wrong with the people of that society.

Realistically, if all crime was legal for 12 hours, people would be raping and robbing each other, in the purge movies, all anyone cares about is going on murder sprees.

Y'know how the Saw sequels are caricatures of the first one? That applies to the Purge (and Final Destination).

Well, not more docile that night, obviously. But more docile during the rest of the year. Get it all out on that one night, y'know...

The movies don't even go that far to try to establish motive.

People are killing each other for extremely arbitrary reasons.

"My neighbor has more money than me and it makes me feel bad. Rather than rob them I'm going to kill them and keep my financial situation the same".

"This guy wouldn't let my take things from his store without paying."

"I killed my parents because being an orphan with no income is better than them telling me off for behaving badly".

"It's fun to kill random people at the extreme risk of also getting killed myself. The rest of the year isn't worth living if I can't also do this."

No. Criminals won't act like that. That's true. But it's more for the common man to get out their rage. Purge or no purge, criminals will act and still be around. But the people who aren't criminals get to act out once a year. Not saying it's a good idea. But that's probably what they're trying to do.

Supposedly Election Year is pretty good, but I haven't bothered with *any* of them so far. Election Year is the only one I want to watch.

Yeah, it doesn't work for any number of reasons.

The third one is interesting. It gets more into the politics of the purge. There is a woman running for president and she plans to end the purge and people try to assassinate her
