Can you blame them while net neutrality is in limbo and the company is in debt? Both YouTube and Netflix can't afford a bandwidth ransom.

That's the revenue model they chose. Google have plenty of money to pay for faster bandwidth. Netflix is in the business of growing faster and crave out a huge market share while burning through massive amount of money and their investors encourage it. If Netflix pay ISPs, it'll only be about $5-$10 million a year. That's something they can handle, but don't want to.

Netflix will continue to raise prices with or without net neutrality. I predict that by 2020, it'll be around $20 per month.

YouTube has been treading water for Google since they bought it. A ransom would put at nonprofitable. Sure Google can afford it but why would they want to spend money when it barely ever paid for itself.

they're both in different boats and neither of them has to do with net neutrality

youtube doesn't give a fuck about appeasing their userbase because it has never flipped a profit. all it's good for is mining user data and selling it to advertisers. i think eventually amazon is going to get into the video sharing gig (either through twitch or another site entirely) and youtube will be a relic

netflix is just a lousily ran company that will probably not be nearly as massive 10-20 years from now

Comcast (30%) and Time Warner (10%) are never going to willingly give up their shares which is gonna cause long-term issues even though Disney has 60% now.

Iger said Hulu is gonna be the more adult/Fox oriented streaming service, while theirs will be the Disney one.

Disney definitely wants to buy Hulu fully, but what's gonna happen is that Disney will likely sell Hulu to Comcast. It's possible Time Warner will lose their 10% as part of the AT&T merger's terms to be in accordance with the DoJ, so they probably won't be a problem.
