that's true, if the grind is too coarse it's easy to under extract, leaving the coffee lacking in flavor. it took me a few tries to get it right.

FWIW, i use a hand grinder that lets me fine tune the coarseness and gives a much more consistent grind than an electric grinder that basically just pulverizes the beans

If we're talking about just coffee, then black. Maybe a little sugar if it's especially bitter.

But I have a massive sweet tooth so I'm not above filling it with sugar and creme sometimes.

Same. About 5 minutes.

Another key is don't put boiling water in it. Wait 30 seconds after the kettle (if you are using one) whistles.

I do water fresh off the boil into it if I'm doing the 6-8 minute, otherwise I wait about 1-1.5 minutes before pouring it in if I'm doing 4 minutes. sometimes i'll 'bloom' the grounds for 30 seconds before pouring the rest of the water in for 4 minutes

I think the recent beans I got need the longer steep though

When I'm home I make espresso on my little machine and add ice, milk and flavored syrups.
Sometimes I add caramel or Hersheys syrup to the top.
At work I use flavored creamers.
