Just wondering. It won't affect gaming much if at all, but it affects the whole industry.

Why? Whats changed to drive a price drop?

they're saying that the buffer is sending out commands that are a security risk through java script when there's a delay
all intel chips are facing a 30percent drop in speed thanks to this

Why would the price drop, it's not like there's any alternatives out there. Welcome to the monopoly.

Price drop but what about reimbursement for current owners.

a lot of us spent a shit ton of money on these things
my i7 was around 300bucks
and now a comparable AMD chip is like 200bucks because of the drop off in speed
but it's mostly just effecting server CPU's honestly doesn't really mess with everyday users

no it's not being fixed
the security flaw is being patched and in return the chip is being slowed down

to get back to where we were we'd have to buy a new chip sometime in 2018

Lol. I can tell you're being purposefully dense but just for anyone else wondering...

It's like buying a 20 piece Lego set for 80 dollars. 10 of them don't fit right . Lego comes by and takes the 10 pieces and calls it case closed, fixed.

If it is a software/driver issue, it can be fixed. You can say that they "slowed down" the processor to fix the security loophole, but knowing how these things work that was probably a quick fix to solve the initial problem, and they are working on a long term one which will get the speed back to where it should be.

If it is a hardware issue, then yea it is more complected, but it is possible to have a software solution to fix it (which Intel is probably looking into now).

so now intels will run as fast as amd processors.

i really can't wait to see the spec release of the 2018 intel models. i'm glad i didn't fork over to buy the i7-8700K last year. I still want to upgrade my processor this year.

It's up to 30%. That means somewhere between 1 and 30 percent.

A) Theyve found the same vulnerability in both ARM and AMD chips. So that wont lead to a price drop either.

B) https://newsroom.intel.com/news/intel-responds-to-security-research-findings/

Contrary to some reports, any performance impacts are workload-dependent, and, for the average computer user, should not be significant and will be mitigated over time.

So... sure. There might be a slow down. But its not nearly as apocalyptic as youre trying to make it sound... so, once again... a vulnerability in all chips available that will soon be fixed, will cause a price drop... why?

C) Bad analogy is bad.

Fine let them steal your legos.

The faster the chip the less impact you'll see.

People with old budget intel cpus are going to be screwed the most.
