Very anti-climactic finish for these last two polls. At least we had Cuphead in (distant) third.

I guess 2017 game strength looks like this:

Breath of the Wild
Mario Odyssey
Persona 5
Horizon
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
Nier Automata
Cuphead
Divinity Original Sin 2
The rest

Maybe Samus Returns slots in there, hard to tell with all the SFF.

Why? They both got very similar results on BotW, not accounting for SFF. Accounting for SFF Odyssey should easily win.

Still great for a Persona game to be third strongest in such a strong year.

Not sure where you're getting that idea! The game was very well received, and is generally considered to be better than X, which has some strength. It would definitely beat Cuphead. Nier is a gamble.

You'd pretty much have to argue no SFF for Persona 5 to win.

I think Divinity Original Sin II is pretty much worthless. It wasn't too far from losing to Doki Doki Literature Club in the PC poll, and then DDLC was almost tripled by Cuphead in the indie poll. Given that, Divinity held together shockingly well in the final poll by coming close to Cuphead, but both were below 8% of the vote there so that was probably just its hardcore fanbase at work. DOSII absolutely does not seen like a game that's going to fare well on gamefaqs in a 1-on-1 unless it gets rallied. Metroid Samus Returns could turn out completely laughably weak and still be stronger.

I'm just still wondering how A Xenobade Chronicles 2 "didn't have a very good reception" despite great critic and user reviews and series best sales.

What an odd thing to say.

Yeah, Xenoblade 2's general reception has been pretty good to fantastic everywhere else I've been on the net outside of Board 8 honestly

That's not a bomb or anything but it's hardly a smash success. Best Sales is pretty much a given - the Switch actually has an install base! Pretty much everyone I've talked to, both on the internet and in real life, have had lukewarm at best feelings on the game. That's anecdotal evidence but the aggregate numbers don't paint a particularly different story.

Dude, it's a 1% difference from X. They effectively got the same reception, and the core base certainly likes 2 more.

Also, that game is great! So now you've spoken to someone who feels otherwise. I just don't see how you can say that but not also say the same about X, which we've already seen be pretty good.

None of those games you listed are particularly popular here. Not fodder but they're not going to light the world on fire. Cuphead might actually be fodder in a traditional Games Contest.

Dark Souls PC is a pretty cherry-picked example as well. The PC port is well-know for being sub-par unless you install a mod. The PS3 version of Dark Souls (the most played one) has a much higher rating...although the 360 version has a low rating for whatever reason.
