Poll of the Day > Man, I just can't get into alcohol

Gosh, my entire family can do it but I can't :(
I have had beer, wine, vodka, tequila, maybe champagne I'm note sure but still I just can't get into anything. How do people drink this shit? I just want to spit it out after one drop

If I had to pick of favorite I'll say wine, that at least didn't feel like pure acid going through my body. What do I do?

Some folks get silly about choice of booze, but ultimately why would anyone drink something that doesn't taste good to them? Maybe you'll enjoy a fruity margarita, or maybe you just don't prefer the taste of alcohol at all.

Idk I had wine mixed with fruit punch before, it was definitely tasty but again the sharp alcohol taste just drives me away :P

Vodka is good, rum sucks, beer is shitty. Gin is good, tequila is good, get coke and drink it with some vodka. You will forget your ails for a while.

Depends where he lives. In Wisconsin, kids can legally drink if they are with their parents who are over 21. Bars and restaurants can refuse to serve them, but there are no legal ramifications if they are drinking with their parents.

I don't like alcohol either. The only way I'll drink it is doing a shot or two with other people. Also, if I'm not paying for it.

Alcohol is supposed to taste bad. It is literally a toxic chemical.

You can either cover it up with a lot of other flavors, acclimate yourself to the taste slowly over time, wait until youre older when your taste buds arent as acute, or decide that drinking isnt your thing which might not be a bad idea.

You seem pretty young by your own admission so it isnt surprising that you have trouble with the taste. Your taste buds are sharper so something like booze isnt going to be as tolerable as it is to some old guy with bourbon in a glass. Thats why they market stuff like mikes and Smirnoff to younger crowds, the stuff is chock full of sugar to cover up the taste.

I'm 26 and I don't like to drink much, either. The subtle flavor that most drinks have is immediately drowned out by the piercing affect of the alcohol itself. So off-putting. I'll just stick to smoking weed if I want to carry myself into sensory bliss.

If you're drinking it for health benefits or for appearance (and why you're worried about "rich-guy" cred at age 17 is beyond me), you're doing it wrong. There are substantially easier (and generally cheaper) ways to get both of those things.

Drink booze if you like. Or don't. That's really what it comes down to. Forcing yourself to drink it because it's the thing you feel like you should be doing doesn't really lead you anywhere (nowhere good, anyways).

Booze has this quasi-mystical allure in high school (and a bit in post-secondary, if you head that route), but once you hit your mid-twenties, you'll realise that nearly everything you thought about booze in high school was, at best, wildly distorted and, at worst, completely wrong (see also: Sex).

Either don't drink it, or wait until you're taste changes. It sounds like you've tried a lot, but not everything. Maybe you just have to find out what taste good to you. There are so drink that don't taste like piss, and go do smooth. There are some that burn, and some that don't. You just gotta find out what works for you. And maybe it's just because you're young. I didn't much like alcohol at a younger age. And for the past 8 years, I've been getting drunk most weekends. Though I have slowed down a lot. But you really don't have to force yourself. Also, get someone to make you mixed drinks. And probably not "a friend who really good at making drinks", but a professional. They usually make them better. And can probably give you a drink you'll like. Bartenders haven't steered me wrong yet...

Smirnoff is disgusting, but Mike's taste great. I wouldn't consider it an alcohol though and I would never drink it if I wanted to actually drink. So it doesn't do anything for me.

Tastes good though.
