So like...Rey had to spend at least 3 days training with Luke, right?

But the resistance only had 18 (16?) hours of fuel left.

Yet Rey shows up from her training just in time to save the Resistance.

And when Finn wakes up, Poe acts like he's been out for like...more than a few days.

So like, did traveling to Lukes planet take weeks or what? And if it did, how did she get to the resistance so fast to save them?

basically...what's the fucking timeline here?

Edit: Now that I'm thinking about it...

Kylo and his crew could clearly enter their cruiser and destroy parts of their fleet. They clearly had skilled pilots. Why exactly didn't they just send like metric fuck ton of Tie Fighters to just fuck the cruiser up? Three of them managed to complety destroy that one bridge that lead to the Leia space scene, so clearly this had to be a possible tactic.

If they didn't have enough torpedos or bombs or whatever, why couldn't they just send a metrick fuck ton of Storm Troopers in the form of boarding parties?

Finns subplot was pointless

Finns character development about learning about the galaxy being morally grey clashes with the main plot of Rey = good Kylo = bad

Poes character development was dumb because he was never really punished for his mistakes, the admiral had really no reason why she didnt tell anyone the plan, and nobody really wonders if they even would have survived if Poe hadnt taken out that Dreadnought

Rose stopping Finn was dumb because if it wasnt for Rey they all would have died anyway

The letting go of the past theme seems like a lame excuse for not expanding on Luke/Leia/Han/Snoke/etc considering they still use stuff like Chewie and the Millenium Falcon

There's so much wrong with this I couldn't fit it into one post. If you mean the entire subplot of Finn and Rose doing their own mission, it was vitally important to the story. If you mean the three minutes where they're in the casino, then sure, maybe that could've been skipped and FInn and Rose could have been arrested when they parked illegally, but there's something to be said for worldbuilding, and the casino was hella interesting to look at.

Poorly done humor that ruins the tone of the movie

Humor has always been a part of Star Wars, especially in the OT. Not every joke was amazing, sure, but I got a few laughs, and so did the audience every time I saw it in theaters. Remember that this is a family-friendly movie, and ultimately, SW is a kids movie franchise. The dark tension has to be cut with some light humor. TLJ did a good job of making jokes without detracting from the seriousness of the situation, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't understand this at all. Finn's role in this film was absolutely necessary, and it frankly sets him up to have some really great character development in the next movie.

there's no need to be so hostile, homie. dude is just expressing his opinion in a topic about discussing opinions.

i think the point is that it wasn't funny. i found the whole 'can you hear me now' and 'your mother' bits of that opening sequence cringe worthy.

honestly, none of the humor in the film resonated with me. it felt like SW has gotten the Disney treatment where they do something serious and then undercut the mood with (unfunny) humor. and Han is my favorite character from the OT. i never felt this way about any of the (actually funny) humor he had.

I liked tlj a lot, but I thought the cinematography was a downgrade from tfa. there wasnt a single scene in the movie that looked or felt as cool as the opening of tfa where kylo freezes that blaster shot midair. same with the fight in the woods.

I also thought the last scene where the kid was telling the story and flexing his lil ring that rose gave him was super lame and solely tracked on to sell merch.

one of the most consistent complaints i've seen of VIII is that the humor didn't work. it's not an isolated opinion.

That requires a bit of mental gymnastics to reach that conclusion. If they designed a Resistance-specific logo for that final scene then yeah, it would be to sell merchandise but they just went with the old logo that they've been selling for decades.

It isn't even near as pathetic as Harry Potter's cash-grab when they created the Deathy Hollows logo (at the end of the series) just to stick it on merchandise since they had no other marketable designs.
