It is, but Subway started in, like, the 80s - which AFAIK is the most recent

was going to guess bojangles was more recent but I just googled it and they came out in 77. they ain't as big but I heard recently they do plan on expanding where as in the past they seemed content with just existing in the south east.

Subway isn't even close, dude. Something like Qdoba comes to mind for me but even that seems like it would be wrong since it's been around for ten years

LeBron James has those pizza chains, I dunno if they're good or popular though. Pittsburgh is like 20 years behind on fast food though. I swear that all we have here is Wendy's, Subway, and Taco Bell. The lack of variety compared to even like Kansas City when I lived there is really underwhelming

Unlikely, since they're very old and, in the case of Five Guys, not that popular. In general, probably Panera Bread which started up in 1987 or *maybe* Chipotle which started in 1993. Keep in mind that it takes time for a brand to become big so most places *should* be 20-30 years old at least.

It was a thing in 1965, but they changed the name in 1968. The name-change doesn't negate the fact that it got its start in 1965. If McDonald's changed its name to Super-Burger today, it wouldn't mean that Super-Burger got its start this year.

Overlooking that google could have answered your question, keep in mind that many Subways are mom & pop restaurants so it's not a particularly meaningful statistic. So while Subway has 45k locations worldwide to McDonald's 37k, McDonald's is the world's second-largest private employer right after Wal-Mart (which was mentioned by BBC and is a bit misleading because McDonald's doesn't actually *employ* most of its workers; instead, they're actually employed by the franchisees.)

https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/the-world-s-largest-fast-food-restaurant-chains.html

(Also that article is poorly written and, at times, resembles something Duckbear might write. Take for instance:
"Subway is also the largest operator in the world whose international headquarters are located in Milford, Connecticut."

Which can be read as only being the largest retailer with an HQ in Milford; ie, implying that places not based in Milford are bigger.)

HWY 55. formerly Andy's burgers shakes and fries. just looked it up. started 1991. I can't speak for its popularity but last I checked they where expanding which is why they changed their name as they ran into another burger place named andy's and said fuck it and didn't want a legal battle.

really good place imo if you can handle the 50's theme they are going for to the point of only playing 50s music on the radio. also the fact its barely fast food. they cook everything by order but they aim to get it to you in under 5 minutes. back in the day they even made the female staff wear poodle skirts. i've actually seen where the original location was as it started in the town I lived in when I was really young.

tbh, hadn't heard of the chain prior to it being targeted by the Obama administration and the Daily Show mentioning it. Then afterward some locations opened in my state.

I've also heard of students protesting the planned opening of a Chick-fil-A on campus because it's a "homophobic" fast food chain.

Five Guys, which I had yesterday for the first time in years, is pretty new.

Panago is also relatively new. I'm the only person on Earth who remembers that it was once called Panagopoulos.
