since the FCC plans to charge us out the ass for doing any little thing online...some people have debated quitting the internet entirely

which means using the mail for communication and bills

instead of online gaming you call friends for couch play or play cards

and instead of streaming you stock up on blurays and dvds

I feel like I could do it for a while. But it's a lot harder since I'm halfway across the country from most of my friends and family. Being closer to home would definitely help since I use the internet a lot less when we're all together. Even when it just comes to little things.

I was born before the internet was mainstream and did fine so I'm sure I can do it again. Doesn't make much of a difference that most things use the internet as most things that do have a internet function are not a must.
Apply for jobs - I can still hand my C.V into places.
Paying Bills - Direct debit would still work
Phone functions - Still work save for the internet
Communication - Phone calls, letters and something that may shock you but face to face are still a thing.
Food shopping - I don't order online
Buying things - Stores exist.
Playing video games - Sure I'd play without patches but still possible. I don't play online.

The list goes on and on. All the internet does is make some things more easy for the most part but more so helps pass time.

-Most places don't let you apply for jobs offline anymore. Just went through the process, and it's hard. Unless they have a job fair. Even then, most places would like you to have an application before going there that you have to print online.
-Some places that have bills don't have building sometimes. Meaning you have to pay online, by phone, or mail. And the phone usually charges you. So, mail would work. But it's not the best.
-Yeah.
-Yeah. Though snail mail will definitely be slower. Could be a burden when needing something in a timely matter.
- Don't by food online for most food. Have bought certain snack online for sending, but very specifically.
-Store exist, though I usually don't like going. Or certain items are not available because everyone bought them. Or they had a sell online. But cost normal price in stores. But still usually possible to buy in stores.
Playing games - some patches are almost needed. Not only that, there are some games that are only available digital download. It can also make it harder to get games. Lots of people would have to buy physical. And the more people who buy physical means less for everyone else. Meaning games are going back to trying to get it when it's in the store. And not enough for everyone. But it's whatever. I got a place I can go. And get them cheaper.

Call friends? I thought you said you had to write friends! =p Plus some people already get together to play cards, etc. Not really a new thing. And a lot of people buy/own DVDs and blurays despite streaming being a thing.

Yeah, we're all used to the convenience now and freak when the internet is out for even a few hours because we feel disconnected from the world but, generally speaking, *most* things can be easily done in the absence of an internet.

Granted, the real problem would be living in the internet age where everybody else was using it but you weren't, because that would greatly impede your ability to ability to succeed in society. If nobody had access, it would merely be an inconvenience.

Ironically enough, a lot of people (maybe even the majority) might actually be happier in the long run. Multiple former facebook execs have now come forward about how the company manipulates human vulnerability to social validation. Most people saying that they would be able to do it probably'd have a hard time in the first 6 mos without any recreational internet (let alone business related things, like getting a job, etc). Honestly it'll be very hard for me and i'd probably just pay the extra bucks for the premium internet (which is where it's gonna go looking at the vote that just passed) and do what I have to do to at least get the same amount of satisfaction that I used to get pre-Net Neutrality abolishment.

I think it would probably suck a lot, but I'd adjust. I already go entire days without going online, not even intentionally, I just get really into a game or writing or a good book and forget to check in. But eventually I start to wonder what's going on and come back.

There was a time when I really used the internet very little, so when I think about what I did back then, it doesn't seem so bad. It'd probably suck for a while though.

If we're just talking about recreation, I could damn near go indefinitely without it. I have enough books, movies, and games to entertain me for decades, and that's before factoring in the social element and outdoor activities.

Not even on a technical level, though. Even in that example, the money doesn't go to the FCC itself. And usually when a company is engaging in "enhanced lobbying," the money goes to the person making the actual appointment (in this case, the president). Tom Wheeler, Obama's FCC guy (can't remember if Obama had one or two, but he was the more famous of them), raised $1.5m for Obama which bought him his FCC chairmanship. He might have seen material or fringe benefit in some form, but all of the influence peddling was to put him into office and, in his case, all of the influence peddled upon him (so to speak) happened years earlier when he himself was an industry lobbyist
