Voltch has, unfortunately, elected not to run the awards this year. But I couldn't sit by and let such a time-honored tradition go absent in one of the greatest years for Japanese anime ever (not really)! I added a few new categories that I feel deserve some notoriety as well. Let's make this fun!

RULES
- Nominations are open until December 31st 11:59 PM
- Voting is to be done via PM, just PM your votes
- You don't have to fill in every category, but if you vote in a category, you must fill it out.
- In the topic you can present the cases for some of your favourite shows of the year
- You must vote for shows that aired in 2017, new seasons of shows are eligible.
- Films are only eligible for their own category. Too many release date issues to allow them a significant role

Anime of the Year
The big one. This award is given to the anime deemed to be the absolute best of 2017.

Felt like this needed it's own category considering we saw two of the biggest anime films hit this year. PLEASE GO BY BD RELEASE!

Studio of the Year
This award is for the studio that produced the most quality shows of the year.

Best Comedy/Slice of Life
Whether it be the funniest, wittiest, or most unique, these shows, hopefully, made you laugh.
Previous Winner: KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!

Best Drama/Action
The super serious stuff that saves anime.
Previous Winner: Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-

Best Story
This is for the show that told the most gripping tale. Or maybe it just felt more unique than anything else.

Best New Male Character
Self-explanatory. Vote based on whom you thought was the best new male character to appear in anime form. Sometimes characters have issues of being released in an unrelated OVA, or barely making an appearance in previous years, and I will allow them. Just ask for specific clarification.

Best New Female Character

Best Vocal Performance (NEW)
I wasn't sure if this would be too popular, so I'm not separating male and female. This is for the best voice acting performance, obviously. I will allow dubs, but just make sure they were dubbed in 2017.

Best Opening/Ending Theme
Whether it's for the sweet theme song or the beautiful visuals (Or a mixture of both I guess), these were the greatest themes of the year.

Best Art (NEW)
New category celebrating the best art direction of the year. Whether it be the most realistic, the most creative, or just showed the most fanservice, art will always be an integral part of the anime experience.

Best Battle
Previously called Best Fight, I think Battle fits better for what the category entails. These can range from simple card duels to all out wars.

Most Disappointing Show of the Year
These shows had the hype, but failed the presentation. The unfortunate category.

For best character.

Where do the gems in Land of the Lustrous fall into? They typically use masculine pronouns when addressing each other, but I'd say based on actions and other factors I'd say more people would associate female qualities to them. Although officially they don't seem to have actual genders.

It should be one or the other because it would split votes. But I do agree generally that in this case I think all of the gems are voiced by females.

Land of the Lustrous' characters all have blatantly feminine qualities, so I'd say they should be counted as female for the sake of easiness.

Best Battle is going to be pretty sparse. Deku vs Todoroki seems pretty easy as the best, but other than that... maybe the mecha battle from LWA? Not coming up with much.

Also I have March Comes In Like a Lion on top of quite a lot of categories, like I did for Mob Psycho 100 last year, so I can't wait for it to also not win any of them.

Sent my noms. One thing I found funny/surprising is that I gave pretty high billing to the new season of Blood Blockade Battlefront, but I had the first season on my worst shows of 2015. It's an enormous improvement and I urge anyone who wasn't that into the first season to try jumping into this one anyway.

Your Name ended up on my list of best movies because I only watched three, but A Silent Voice and Night is Short, Walk On Girl were both much better.

This season in general was pretty well represented on my list. Ancient Magus' Bride got some appearances, as did BBB&Beyond, and Recovery of an MMO Junkie was my favorite comedy series of the year. And then March Comes in Like a Lion had a place in a lot of the categories including being my favorite of 2017.

I put Hinamatsuri as my most anticipated show for 2018. Though I have some worries about it. I remember when Jitsu wa watashi wa was animated into garbage despite being a great comedy manga. Hinamatsuri is the funniest manga I've ever read, but that doesn't mean it won't suck as an anime. MHA Season 3 is the safer choice since it's guaranteed to be great.

Oh wait I always forget. How do we handle 2-cour shows that had their second cour air at the start of 2017 as far as eligibility goes?

Essentially only the second season counts, but technically, you can base it on the half of S1 that aired in 2017 as well.

I really didn't like the White & Black plotlines of the first season and didn't think the first season delivered up to what I wanted it to be. The second season has been completely episodic and much more focused on the members of Libra and their craziness, which is what I wanted all along.

That was true of the first 10 episodes of S1 too, wasn't it? I thought it was a 10/10 show up to the last few.

I do think S2 is expanding its cast coverage quite a bit, though.

I also didn't like the conclusion of B&W, though I liked the journey.

In retrospect, that's true. I still feel like the second season is significantly more entertaining, but I can't identify the exact reason.

Oh man, didn't realize Darling in the Franxxx (Trigger's new mecha anime) was starting next month! Exciting!

I think I've seen exactly three 2017 movies? What have people watched other than Kizu3/Your Name/A Silent Voice? I guess that one Ghibli movie?

Studio seems tougher this year than most. I don't think I've seen multiple greats from any studio? KyoAni had Maidragon and Silent Voice, while Dogakobo had Gabriel Dropout and New Game S2, but even lowering my standards to that level isn't helping me find a third. Maybe something'll jump out at me after watching Fall shows?

Didn't even realize til now that Military Uniform Princess from Re:Creators was voiced by Aki Toyosaki. I love how I never recognize her voice in anything. I remember back when K-On! came out I thought she was one of the less talented VAs in the cast, but now she might be the top VA in the industry. Her range is incredible.

Other than that, I think I have picks for most categories other than battle. I'm sure not watching Hero Academia doesn't help, but still. Will probably just use some stuff from Re:Creators and Titan S2 at this rate...
