Yeah, it's kind of weird that FFVII has the fewest top ten appearances of the "major" games despite the number of times they've had five in the top 20. Even FFIV and FFVIII have more.

I'm impressed that Barret is tied for first there

I always thought that Barret was pretty underdog. Like if you had asked me "is this Barret's first top 10" I would've said "probably?"

Well, all three of his top tens have come since CXIII, and both of Cloud's have come since CXV. They're the only FFVII characters who've had multiple top tens since the New Era started, actually.

feels like there's just more casual players from that game tbqh

Feel like to get to Top 10 you have to have around a group of at least 4 diehard savers who are happy to push for that character

That, or you save a character who gets a lot of casual support/rub off saves

Yeah, FFVII's diversity in the fanbase helps it get lots of characters into the top 25, but perhaps the fact that they end up so split between them all ends up hurting them when the saves pile up.

It's not that I have anything against Minwu in particular
I just hate FFII and it's trash
It's characters are trash
None of them should make it past the nominiations round

With that said let's get a FFIII character into the top 10 next year because it's trash too (or so I heard)

Even if you don't like FFII, good characters can exist in bad games. Just look at Vivi.

Minwu's a good character.

Eh, he's well designed and "neat", for a really old character from a bad game. He's good in the sense he's much better than the rest of the cast I suppose. Calling him a great character comparatively speaking to other more fleshed out personalities is a bit of a stretch.

A far less offensive "oddity" run than usual though, when it comes to SMFFFC.

Eh I'd call him fleshed out "enough" to be on par with most of the non main characters in FF games. FF2 isn't really too far below the other FFs at all in terms of fleshing out the few characters that actually get some characterization. Like compare Leon with Kain and in some ways I'd argue that Leon is the more interesting of the two.

I mean it's not like he's Josef whose entire point of existence is to get crushed by a boulder. It's important to not confuse number of lines of dialogue with characterization.

You know, technically, with the right backstory, there are a lot of ways to explain away that Dark Nation is an enemy type in CC while still making Rufus's unique. Maybe Rufus cloned him because HE'S RICH or maybe Dark Nation is a hivemind that controls each of the spawn.
